THE RISE OF ROBERTS
ROBERTS MIDDLE SCHOOL
The Great Storm
What is my story? If you don’t see me, I am the house in the picture. Eight years ago this week, Hurricane Ike rocked my world. My neighbors did not survive the 110 mph sustained winds. When I reflect, I ask the question, “Why was I spared?” I had to go back in time when I was being built to find the answers I was seeking. I remember the builders taking so much time and care to pour the foundation. I never understood why at that time the process took so long. I wanted to be complete and finished like those around me. Now I realize that I am a manifestation of the attention to detail my builders invested in me. My builders were not just any builders, but craftsmen who created me as a work of art. My builders did not approach building me with the mindset that they just want to get it done. They understood that the foundation is not a simple part of the overall construction process, but getting the foundation right is incredibly important to weather any storm. Now I realize I merely was not spared, but am a product of a solid foundation. Hurricane Ike was a powerful storm that swept through Galveston in September 2008. The picture above is from Bolivar Peninsula of the lone surviving house.
Roberts, can I ask you whom would you want to build your house? The answer is simple for me; I would want who ever built the house in the picture to build my house. Culture is everything to me. Creating a culture of love, purpose, connection, and growth are our foundations at Roberts. Are you building something with love and soul? Are you willing to help build a solid foundation upon which our students can build their future? Let us build a foundation that paves the path for generations of Roberts students to succeed. This Friday we will have our first out of school social. My desire is for everyone to come for fellowship even if it is just for a few minutes. Your family obligations still comes first, so totally understand if you cant make it. Together, brick by brick, we are building something special here at Roberts!
