Bound for Middle School

A Bobcat's Guide: Updated 3/8/2022

Welcome 5th grade Bobcats,

It's your final year at Baldwin and it's time to start thinking about next year! This smore is designed as a one stop shop for all information pertaining to transitioning to middle school. It will be updated regularly so please be sure to bookmark and check back for the most current information.

Baldwin's attendance zone is split between middle schools. If you would like to know where your attendance zone is, go to Find Your School. Click on "School Zone Finder", shown below.

Once you have determined which school you are zoned for, the real fun starts! Every student will be required to complete a choice sheet for their home middle school and submit it to Baldwin. A choice sheet is a sheet of paper with choices of what classes to take in 6th grade. This includes electives and core classes. From there, your family will learn more about your middle school opportunities.

If you are interested in a transfer, you can visit Austin ISD's website about transfers to learn more. You may determine that another middle school would be a better fit for your family. Please note, not all transfer applications are accepted. Keeping an open mind and learning about your home middle school will be vital.

You will also have the opportunity to apply for a magnet program at a middle school. For more information, visit Austin ISD's website about magnet schools. We will have virtual programs throughout the fall and spring where representatives from these magnet programs will share information for applicants. Again, not all magnet applications are accepted so continue to watch for your home school's information.

Throughout the year I will be adding information to each school's section. Keep an eye out for updates! The top of the smore will indicate what date/schools have been updated.

Magnet Programs- APPLICATION CHANGE

All magnet schools will be accepting the same common application this year. The application window will open on Monday, October 4 and close on January 7, 2022. Students will receive a virtual orientation from five magnet programs on October 5th at 8:00 am. Teachers will provide the zoom link and students will have an opportunity to ask questions. Virtual students have been invited to the orientation as well.
