Bottle Flip Math Challenge
Miss Stauffer and Mrs. Nawa’s math classes recently completed a Water Bottle Flip Math Challenge. Students compared and tested 8 different types of bottles to see which would have the most successful flip rate and why. During this project, students studied math concepts like data collection, frequency, graphing, percentages, average, and ratios. They also explored a little bit of physics including angular momentum, fluid dynamics, and gravity!

Grant Field Runs the Track
We are so proud of Grant Field who is a member of the Youth track team for the Pennsylvania Center for Adapted Sports and recently competed in his first track meet for the season in Rahway, NJ. Each student on the team has a permanent physical or visual impairment that would make him eligible for the Paralympics. These athletes train regularly throughout the year for competitions in swim and track with the goal of qualifying to represent the state of Pennsylvania in the Junior National competition held each summer. During this first meet of the season Grant worked hard and completed events in both track and field. Grant had a strong showing in his first ever competitive meet and is looking forward to future competitions.
Monisha Das Gupta
Monisha Das Gupta is an Indian-American scholar whose research focuses on labor and migrant rights, particularly for South Asians. She's a professor of ethnic and women's studies at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa and the author of Unruly Immigrants: Rights, Activism, and Transnational South Asian Politics in the United States. She recently published a study on Khmer Girls in Action, an activist organization that serves teenagers in refugee families and "connect[s] the U.S. war in Cambodia with the war on crime and gangs in Long Beach."
In 1997, NASA astronaut and mechanical engineer Kalpana Chawla made history as the first woman of Indian origin to go into space. She worked as a mission specialist and primary robotic arm operator aboard the Space Shuttle Colombia. In 2003, during her second mission to space, Chawla tragically died, along with her six crewmates, when the Colombia disintegrated during re-entry. She posthumously received the NASA Distinguished Service Medal and the Congressional Space Medal of Honor.
Hiram Fong
Senator Hiram Fong became one of Hawaii’s first two U.S. senators in 1959, upon the state’s admission to the Union. The son of Chinese immigrants, Fong was also the first U.S. senator of Asian ancestry. During his nearly 18 years in the Senate, Fong advocated civil rights and voting rights legislation and immigration reform that sought to prevent discrimination against Asians.
Philip Vera Cruz
Philip Vera Cruz was a Filipino American labor organizer, farmworker, and leader in the Asian American movement. He played a central role in founding the United Farm Workers union. Vera Cruz is best known for his role in the Farmworkers strike and boycott, and his leadership in the union, where he served as the second vice-president.
New Dismissal App for 2023-2024
Effective at the start of the 2023-2024 school year, our school will use an app for parents to track dismissal changes. Pick Up Patrol is used by several neighboring districts to streamline early dismissals and dismissal changes. Pick Up Patrol will replace the forms that are submitted to the office, classroom teachers, etc. if your child has a change in dismissal. Most importantly, it will help us ensure that our students are safely dismissed to their correct after-school destinations. Please be on the lookout for more information regarding Pick-Up Patrol in the coming months.
