Grading Policy and Clarifications for 2020-2021

Students will be allowed to redo/retake any assessment recorded in the state provided student information system. Exceptions: AP courses, Early College Dual Credit courses, finals.

  1. Students who choose to participate in redos/retakes must participate in reteaching, tutorials, or other review activities assigned by the teacher in preparation for redoing an assignment or retaking a test.

  2. The redo/retake will cover the same material, but may have different questions and/or different format.

  3. Students can earn full credit on the original score on the redo/retake on any given assessment that goes in the grade book.

Assignments/Assessments and Grading Clarifications:

Using the current Rowan County Grading policy, we will adhere to the following clarifications of assignments, assessments and grading practices for staff, students and parents.

1. All teacher to student communication regarding remote/distance learning assignments and/or assessments will occur through the student’s school email account (firstname.lastname@stu.rowan.kyschools.us).

2. During the 2020-2021 school year, we will be using the following grading scale:

A 90-100

B 80-89

C 70-79

D 60-69

F 49-59 (there will be no formal grade in IC below 49% although work will be informally graded as it normally would be with 0-100% with the following breakdown for new scale)

  • 51-59 – Student work scored 51-59% correct will be recorded as that grade (example: assignment was scored 52% so the student receives a 52% in Infinite Campus Gradebook)

  • 50 – Student work scored 50% or less correct as graded (example: assignment was scored 32% so the student receives a 50% in Infinite Campus Gradebook)

  • 49 – no effort, not attempted or was not turned into teacher

  • M – will be recorded as a placeholder for all work not returned and will be automatically calculated as a 49% at the end of the established deadline

3. All assignments/assessments will have clearly established and communicated deadlines for completion (ex. Regardless of the date assigned, assignments/assessments given during a grading term will be due at the end of the grading term prior to report card being sent home).

4. There will be no penalties for late work but work will not be accepted ten school days past the established deadline of assignment/assessment.

5. Formative assessments will be given and specific feedback provided, not just a grade, and they will count 20% of the final grade in Infinite Campus. Summative assessments will count for 80% in Infinite Campus.

6. Summative assessments will adhere to the District Grading Policy above under ASSESSMENT section including part A, B and C.

Not a school rule - It’s the LAW!

  • Students who are sixteen (16) or seventeen (17) years old who become deficient in academics or attendance shall be reported to the Transportation Cabinet for driver’s license, permit, or driving privilege revocation.

  • Students must pass 5 out of 7

classes each semester.

  • Students must not accumulate 9 or more unexcused absences in a semester.

Contact Information

If you need to get in contact with your teacher, please find their contact information in this link.

For access to teacher websites, please follow this link.

Attention Student Drivers!

Please be aware that if you have 9 or more unexcused absences during the fall semester you are in danger of losing your driving permit or driver's license. Also, you must be passing 5 of your 7 courses or you will lose your permit or license.

This is a Kentucky state law that applies to all student drivers under the age of 18.

Are You Employable Right Now?

Each student will receive an Employability Score for each class. The score will reflect the percentage of time that a student was respectful, responsible and ready to learn during the 4 week progress window. The rubric is listed below.

At this time, in an effort to allow social distancing in the stands, for HOME matches we will only be allowing four family members from each family to attend athletic events. No coach's cards will be permitted.

Please check with the coach or athletic director for requirements to attend away events. Each school's guidelines are set in conjunction with their local health department and school board.
