Principal's Note
We are continuing to have a great start of the year at Prairie View! We've been spending the first few days learning routines, building independence, and celebrating good behaviors with our PAWS slips. My favorite part of the week so far is announcing good behaviors recognized on PAWS slips and making positive phone calls home with three students each Friday. We are sending the PAWS slips home in Friday folders at the end of the week, so please make sure to celebrate those behaviors with your children also when they are in there.
Today, we had our first fire drill of the year. The students did a great job! We will also be having our first safety drill in the building next week. We will send a Shoutpoint that day to let you know when we ran it so you can have a follow up in a discussion with your children later that day. The teachers let the students know this is a drill and that we will practice safety this year just like we practice behaviors for our other guidelines. Thank you in advance for talking to your children about the importance of following directions during our fire, tornado, and safety drills. This reinforcement ensures that we are prepared should an actual emergency arise. We will be having a visit from the North Prairie Police during our safety drill next week and the North Prairie Fire Department in October to discuss fire safety.
As always, reach out with any questions you have about safety as well as any other issues with our school. Thank you for all you do to support our work. Together, we can help our learners to achieve great things.
2017-2018 Wisconsin Forward Exam Individual Student Reports
The Wisconsin Forward Exam was administered during the spring of 2018 in English language arts (ELA) and mathematics for students in grades 3-8, science for grades 4 and 8 , and social studies for grades 4 and 8. As part of the Wisconsin Student Assessment System (WSAS), the Forward Exam is a large-scale, standardized achievement test designed to assess what students know in relation to the Wisconsin Academic Standards. Additional information regarding the WSAS is available on the DPI website (https://dpi.wi.gov/assessment/parent-info).
Individual Student Reports (ISR) are being sent home in today's Friday folder. This report provides information about your child’s performance on the Forward Exam. Please remember that the ISR is just one of many indicators of your child’s academic performance. In order to obtain a more complete picture of your child’s areas of strength and growth, it is important to consider information from a variety of sources.
For more information on ISRs, please review the “What is an Individual Student Report” document via the DPI website (http://bit.ly/2x7435m). Please reach out to your child's classroom teacher or Stephanie Blue if you have any questions.
Start and End Times
- School Start Time: 8:30
- School End Time: 3:35 (2:35 every Wednesday)
We appreciate you being patient in the mornings while we work through drop-off procedures. If you need to leave the car to help your child get out of the vehicle in the morning, please pull off to the side visitor parking spots and help your child cross to an adult.
At the end of the day, parents picking up students must pick up from the lobby (or playground for kindergarten students). Students will not be allowed to exit the building without an adult.
Thank you for working together with the school on our new safety policies.
Specials Report - P.E. Classes
Welcome to a new school year! First, I would like to introduce myself. I am Paul Moser, and this is my 8th year teaching Physical Education and my 2nd year at Prairie View. I was raised in Mukwonago and a graduate of Mukwonago High School which makes working in this district really special for me and my family.
Throughout this school year in Physical Education your children can expect an environment that emphasizes respect and positive communication. We will be learning movement skills, physical fitness, team building, health promotion and so much more! Throughout the first two weeks we have covered recess expectations and numerous team building activities. In the upcoming weeks we will begin Fitness Gram testing and challenge activities.
Just as a heads up for families of Prairie View: Jump Rope for Heart is no longer a program endorsed by WHPE (Wisconsin Health Physical Education). There are other programs being created to take the place of Jump Rope for Heart. At this point the Mukwonago School District physical education department as a whole will take a break from doing any of these activities and revisit it again next year. I know a lot of students look forward to Jump Rope for Heart so I am sad to see it go. However, we are looking into some new and exciting alternatives!
I look forward to another great year here at Prairie View and can’t wait to get more involved with this awesome community!
