NJHS Inductee Selection
NJHS Inductee Selection is underway! Our NJHS Advisor, Lauri Marek, has reviewed all data from Semester 1 (August through December 2021) to determine any 7th or 8th grade students who met the following four criteria:
- Enrolled in a minimum of 2 Honors classes
- Semester 1 cumulative grade average of all 7 classes must be at least a 92
- No ISS served for any reason during Semester 1
- No more than 5 unexcused absences in any class during Semester 1
Students who have met these criteria will be invited to attend a meeting on Tuesday, February 1st to explain what NJHS is all about. They will be given an application that must be filled out completely by the student and turned in to Mrs. Marek in Room 502 by February 11th. Late applications will NOT be accepted. You are welcome to email Mrs. Marek if you have any questions lauri.marek@lvisd.org We are excited to welcome our new members to NJHS!
LVJH STUDENT COUNCIL
PROJECTS:
We have so many great projects going on for the new year. Our club is hosting a food drive that runs from January 31st through February 11th. We will donate all items to the La Vernia Food Pantry and items will be collected in advisory classes. The top 3 advisory classes will win a pizza party awarded by Student Council. Best of luck and let's give back to our community in a great way. Students may ask their advisory teachers for further details.
100TH DAY OF SCHOOL:
We also want to encourage students to dress up on the 100th day of school in 1920's attire or dress as if you are 100 years old for fun. Be creative, the school dress code always applies.
HOT COCOA SALES:
Our hot cocoa sales for January went great and $250 will be used to give back to our school with recess equipment. Thank you for supporting our program in a fun way while staying warm.
CAMPUS NEWS CREW:
Our club looks forward to continued news provided weekly. We thank our librarian Mrs. Burrhus for her support and Mrs. Carter for sharing this news. We hope to continue updates weekly.
CLUB SHIRT PURCHASE:
Members, make sure to vote for a club shirt design that will be shared this week. Our next meeting is Feb. 4th at 7:45 a.m. and we hope to have the shirt order forms available at this meeting.
SOUPER BOWL OF CARING...
Imagine the difference we could make in our community if every student donated one can of food. We are Taking the Tackle Hunger Challenge! Items will be collected in advisory classes for students. The top 3 advisory classes collecting the most food items will receive a pizza party donated by Student Council. Last year we donated over 3,504 food items and each year we hope to surpass our goal as a campus.
Our Charity of Choice is the La Vernia Christian Food Pantry, 13292 U.S. Hwy 87 W, La Vernia, TX 78121. Our Collection will take place from January 31st through February 11th. On February 12th Student Council will deliver all food items to the Food Pantry.
The food pantry is in need of items such as soups, canned meats, canned tomatoes, pasta/grains, canned fruit, canned vegetables, beans, and other like items. Monetary donations are also accepted at https://tithe.ly/give?c=2316832 but will not go towards the class count for our campus competition. Thank you for your donation as we look forward to a successful food drive that supports our community.ART NEWS...
SICK STUDENTS...
Special Lunch Deliveries to School:
REMINDER:
FOOD CAN ONLY BE DELIVERED FOR YOUR OWN STUDENT. This is a safety precaution (food allergies, covid, and other health related concerns). Thanks for helping us keep our students safe and healthy!
STUDENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO MEET YOU IN THE PARKING LOT TO PICK UP FOOD DELIVERIES. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE!
A table will be set up in the foyer for you to drop off a lunch for your student. Please label the lunch with your student’s first and last name. Please communicate to your student before school that you are bringing them lunch. Office staff WILL NOT notify your student about their lunch delivery as this causes a disruption of the learning environment. Please REFRAIN from calling/texting your student during the school day to notify them. Phones should be off unless used for instructional purposes. The student is responsible for stopping by the foyer on their way to lunch to pick up their lunch.
CLASSROOM CONCERNS OR QUESTIONS?
FROM NURSE FRETS...
The TDAP booster and meningitis immunizations MUST be up to date before starting 7th grade. Please send in updated shot records after yourstudent receives these. This helps us get a jumpstart on immunizations moving into next year.
STUDENT ABSENCES
First and foremost, we want them to rest and heal quickly!
If your student is out sick for an extended period of time, our teachers are notified. The teachers utilize Google Classroom daily where students can find lessons, notes, and work to complete for each class. We encourage your student to work via google classroom when/if they are feeling up to it, so they can stay as caught up as possible. The last thing we want is for them to be overwhelmed when returning.
Again, the focus is health! When your student returns to school, their teachers will work with them on getting caught up, as well.
NEED TO CHECK YOUR STUDENT OUT EARLY?
Please follow this process in order to sign your child out early.
Calling before you arrive or filling out the QR code at home prior to arriving is NOT an option.
1, Enter the building into the foyer area.
2. Provide your current driver's license.
3. Use device or Ipad to access sign out form using the provided QR code.
After parent information is verified in our registration system, your student will be called from class.
CUT OFF TIME FOR PICKING UP YOUR STUDENT IS 3:30 PM.
ADMIN/TEACHER CONTACTS
WANT TO GET INVOLVED? JOIN OUR PTO!!
Cell Phones, Smart/Apple Watches, Air Pods
*Smart/Apple watches can be used to check the time ONLY. Students are not aloud to play music, text, call, or use any other features during the school day. It is imperative that we exercise all precautions to avoid any academic dishonesty along phone usage without teacher permission for instructional use. These will be picked up if used for any other reason than telling time.
*Air Pods must remain in the students backpack during the school day. They cause a heavy distraction in the learning environment. A large number of students are wearing these under hoods (which are not allowed to be on during the school day) and under the gator style mask. These will be picked up if the student has them out during the day.
Thank you for your support regarding these concerns.
