PARENTS' NIGHT WITH JULIA COOK
Dripping Springs ISD will hold a parents' night with award-winning children's book author and parenting expert Julia Cook on Thursday, Feb. 10, from 6:00-7:30 p.m. in the Rooster Springs Elementary cafeteria. Childcare will be provided by DSHS students in the RSE gymnasium. Some of the topics covered will be balancing the parenting act, personal safety of kids, video game addiction, and more! ELEMENTARY ACCELERATION INFORMATION NIGHT
Dripping Springs ISD will hold an Elementary Acceleration Information Night on Tuesday, Feb. 15, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the DSISD Central Office Board Room. Information will be provided on grade-level and single-subject acceleration for kindergarten through fifth-grade students. The event can also be accessed via Zoom at this link. DSHS SWIM TEAMS QUALIFY 12 FOR STATE MEET
Twelve Dripping Springs High School swimmers and divers qualified for the UIL 5A State Meet after their performances at the Region V-5A Meet on Monday and Tuesday in College Station.
For the girls, Anna Hoskovec captured the regional title in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:07.48 and recorded a runner-up finish in the 200-yard freestyle to advance to state in both events. Both the girls' 200- and 400-yard freestyle relay teams qualified for state with Hoskovec joining Athena Turner, Macie McCurry and Riley Dalton to finish third in both relays events. Sydney Stalbaum recorded a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle behind Hoskovec to also punch a ticket to state. Audrey Wilson finished second in one-meter diving with a school-record performance of 392.60 points to advance to state.
Colin O’Connor and Gage Hembree were individual state qualifiers for the boys, advancing in the 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard breaststroke, respectively.
Dripping Springs also qualified two boys’ relay teams. The 400-yard freestyle relay comprised of Hembree, Wyatt Johnson, Nolan Granger and Joseph Parsons set a new school record with a time of 3:16.01. The 200-yard medley relay team of O’Connor, Hembree, Parsons and Aidan Jones rounded out the state qualifiers for the Tigers. In addition to the state qualifiers, the boys’ 200-yard freestyle relay of Johnson, Granger, O’Connor and Jones set a school record with a time of 1:31.06.
Head coach Michael Hoskovec was one of three coaches named Region V-5A Girls’ Swimming Coaches of the Year. DSHS finished in fourth place in both the boys’ and girls’ team races.
The UIL State Meet will be held Feb. 18-19 at the Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center on The University of Texas at Austin campus. The swimming and diving prelims will begin on Friday at 10 a.m., while the finals will take place on Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m.

DSHS WRESTLING TEAMS CAPTURE DISTRICT TITLES
The Dripping Springs High School boys’ and girls’ wrestling teams recorded historic performances Saturday at the District 13-5A Championships in Austin.
The boys’ team came away with a third-straight district title while the girls’ team captured the school’s first district championship in just their fourth appearance at the district competition.
All 14 DSHS boys qualified for the Region IV-5A Championships for the first time in school history. The Tigers came away with seven first-place finishes with Abel Silverman (106), Taylor Van De Walle (113), Hagen Shipley (126), Seth Rill (160), Dominic Parmeson (182), Alec Rill (195), and Grant Clarno (220) winning their respective weight classes. Dripping Springs totaled 293 points to finish 92 points ahead of second-place Leander Glenn High School.
For the girls, all nine DSHS competitors advanced to the regional championships. The Lady Tigers recorded 162 team points for the team title, 48 points in front of Leander Glenn. Carson Crow (110), Addison Williams (119), Alyson Brownson-Welch (128), and Caroline Nix (138) were crowned district champions.
All 23 Tigers earned a top-three finish in their weight class.
The Region IV-5A Championships will be held Feb. 11-12 at the Burger Center in Austin.
