A Woman's Right to Vote

The 19th Amendment gives women the right to vote. This is one of 3 suffrage amendments to the Constitution.

  1. Passed by Congress June 4, 1919, and ratified on August 18, 1920, the 19th amendment guarantees all American women the right to vote. Achieving this milestone required a lengthy and difficult struggle; victory took decades of agitation and protest.

Women's Suffrage

Limited voting rights were gained by women in Sweden, Finland and some western U.S. states in the late 19th century.
