Welcome to Our House "Where Character Matters"
Dear Botsford Families,
You know that it has been a long time since our Bobcats have joined together to meet in dens when they start asking "When is our next den?".
This Friday we finally gathered in our dens and then met in the gym to kick off our World's Finest Chocolate BEST fundraiser event. Our fundraiser brings back the nostalgic tastes and smells of the $1 candy bar that we all probably remember from our own childhood. We want to make this fundraiser a Win-Win so as students sell they can earn prizes that include "Garfield" collectibles, Webkinz stuffed animals, flying light up helicopters, a family 4 pack to Ohio's Kalahari indoor waterpark and even a chance to paint the principal.
The focus of our den lesson was dealing with anger and learning to back away. We talked about what makes us angry and how we know we are beginning to feel angry. Students shared how their bodies feel when they begin to feel angry-clenched fists, tight tummy, warm ears, and even tears. We listened to Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns It's OK to Back Away . This is a story about Howard, a very active bunny, who was having a very bad day. He was getting angry and acting out a lot. His best friend Ali helps him deal with anger issues and back away from conflict.
Our goal is to help our Bobcats learn to manage angry feelings but it takes a lot of time and practice. Kids feel good when they are in control of their actions, no matter what emotion they might be experiencing. As a parent, you can model positive behaviors and coping skills for dealing with angry feelings. Use these “anger-dousing” methods to help your child the next time his or her temper flares:
BEST Movie Night
We are thrilled to be able to offer another BEST Movie Night event. Put on cozy pajamas and gather your blankets, pillows and stuffed animals. Join us in the gym for a family movie. We will have popcorn, pizza, drinks other yummy snack items for sale. Please remember that this is NOT a drop off activity. We want families to enjoy a movie together.
