Classroom Behavior Management
When thinking about this topic, I often hear in my head my mother's voice saying, "Proper prior planning prevents poor performance." She was a preschool teacher, a career I landed in myself for almost a decade as well. However, when you are wrangling 30 kids under 5 years old, several fellow preschool staff, and all of the toys and materials in the typical preschool classroom there is only so much you can plan for and control. Three key components in a well thought out classroom behavior management toolkit include 1) relationships/rapport, 2) proactive strategies, and 3) reactive strategies. I found this checklist which breaks down these three categories into their observable elements and utilize it frequently when I am invited to complete a classroom observation to support student and staff success.
Beyond Behavior
This visual on Classroom Management represents all that teachers juggle. Check out a CM powerpoint presentation here.

Competition
Healthy competition motivates us to strive for more. Read up here on the research around gamification in education.
Fidelity Check!
School-wide positive behavioral interventions and supports (SWPBIS) can and should be implemented with fidelity and integrity. Treatment integrity encompasses the quality assurance process individual specialists and campus communities undergo to measure whether the strategies and supports detailed in planned interventions are occurring as intended. On the individual level, the research on single subject experimental design follows strict guidelines to provide high treatment integrity. Within the realm of applied behavior analysis, interobserver agreement (IOA) is a strategy used to gauge if data collection efforts are accurately capturing the target information.
