Important Reminder

Reminder that students should not be playing on the playground before school starts. We have no adult supervision before school on the playground so it is not safe.

Also, only Hornung students can be on the playground during school hours up until Friendship Center dismissal at 5:30 pm.

Thank you!

Principal’s Message - March 26, 2021

Spring Break is starting Tomorrow!

Just a reminder that our Spring Break will be occurring from Saturday, March 27th through Monday, April 5th. Tuesday, April 6th school will resume. Enjoy your Break!!!

March Is Reading Month!!!

During this month, we really have been placing more emphasis on the importance of reading. We are celebrating in many ways the positive things that reading provides. When I was growing up, sports books were on the top of my list when we had book orders. Yes, way back 40 some odd years ago, us kids looked forward to receiving those books that we loved. I still have the paperback book “Bobby Orr, Dynamite On Ice” that I ordered in 1972…I know, haha!

High interest books are often a great motivator and as parents you probably already know what kind of books your child enjoys. Topics could include animals, sports, mysteries, or short chapter books (i.e. Magic Tree House, Bailey School Kids). Maybe Dr. Seuss or Curious George books are favorites. Whatever it is, books can be a great investment! Good luck to all of the kids and happy reading!!!

Virtual Conscious Discipline Parent Workshop! We are happy to announce our special parent seminar that will enlighten you on methodologies that support the Hornung Social Emotional Goal. Join us virtually on Wednesday, April 14th at 6:30 to learn more about a very important component that supports children in all different ways. Here is the link:

A BIG thanks to everyone who helped make our Silent Auction a great success. We raised over $ 7,000 and this will let us continue to keep fun activities ongoing for the kids.

Finally, our outdoor classroom tents will be coming back once the weather stays a little more consistently warm & dry. The teachers and students enjoyed this space last fall and so it will continue in the spring.

Counselor Corner

Here we are in March, ready for some sunshine and warmer weather! This month, we will be visiting classrooms for some Read Alouds and social-emotional stories for Reading Month. We are also focusing on the needs of students and classrooms and providing additional support with student groups and individual support. Our goal for this month is to more directly meet the needs of our students during this stretch of the year when we all need a little more TLC.

Lets Connect: If you are noticing some behaviors that are interfering with your child’s success in the classroom, please feel free to complete my parent referral form and we can work together to determine if supports are needed here at school.

More Resources: We also have our BAS Elementary Counseling website for ideas and resources to be used at home!

Mrs. McKiddy
