Good afternoon, WES Families!
Please see below for all of the happenings at Walkerton Elementary!
Parent Teacher Conference Success! Thank You!
THANK YOU to all of our wonderful families for participating in Parent Teacher Conferences this week!

Just a reminder, there will be no school tomorrow or Monday for Fall Break: The WES Office will be closed, as well.
We hope everyone enjoys their time with their kids, and we will see everyone back on Tuesday!

Pumpkin-Mania in 2nd Grade!
Leaves are Falling, and It Is Getting Cold! (Reminder)
Fall came full force this week, as we saw the temperature drop to 55 degrees at 7:45 in the morning!
As the weather begins to change, please remind your children that their clothes need to change as well. Coats, shoes, hats, gloves, etc. may be needed sooner rather than later.
If you need assistance in providing any type of clothing, please email Principal Fuller at pfuller@jgsc.k12.in.us
Similarly, as the rain (and God forbid snow) begins to fall, please remember to keep it slow in the parking lot, both in the morning and afternoon. We have a lot of very excited kids eager to both come to school and go home from school, and we want to make sure we are keeping them as safe as possible.
WES Devices: Chargers, and Cords Going Home (Recurring)
If/when a child is sent home for COVID related reasons, we want to ensure that each student has everything they need to meet virtually with their class(es): This includes sending home a device, charging brick, and cord.
Our Tech Department does a wonderful job of ensuring that these items are placed in a Ziploc bag with a note for each child.
As a reminder, if the charging brick and cord are not returned upon your child's returning to school, for grades KG-2nd, a $5 fee for each the charging brick and cord will be assessed to your child's account. For grades 3-6, a $20 fee will be assessed for a missing Chromebook charging brick and cord.
If items are misplaced or forgotten, we will send home a reminder to return the item, but if the charging brick or cord is not returned within 48 hours, that $5 fee will be assessed until the items are returned.
If you have any questions, please contact Principal Fuller at pfuller@jgsc.k12.in.us

With any new program, there will be some bumps along the way, but here are TWO UPDATES that will hopefully alleviate any stress:

- The service will start our first day of school, Wednesday, August 11th
Please register for care as normal. If you have any questions about the program, please contact Mrs. Heather Harrison at hharrison@jgsc.k12.in.us

Getting to Know New WES Staff: Mrs. Kim Snyder
Mrs. Kim Snyder was recently hired to be our brand new Nurse! Mrs. Snyder will be taking care of all our students and staff!
Let's get to know Kim a little more!
Hello! My name is Mrs. Snyder!
I have been a nurse in this community for 25 years. I live here locally with my husband and two kids, one of which is a student at Urey. I am very active in the John Glenn Falcon Pride band boosters and just generally enjoy all the students in this community. I love music, cooking and a good medical drama on TV or in print!
We are very fortunate to have added Mrs. Snyder to our WES Family!
Welcome!!

The Importance of...Playing!
Principal Fuller's Thoughts
"This is good because..."
Whenever something wonderful happens, we can easily think about 'the good' in that situation.
Whether you get a promotion at work, someone buys your coffee in line at Dunkin', or you found that missing $20 in your pants pocket, it's easy to see the good when it's something positive...
...it becomes slightly more difficult to see the good during the difficult times.
"This is good because..."
It does require work to train your brain to see the positive in all situations.
Whenever anything excellent, mediocre, lame, exciting, or 'unfair' happens, I must pause for a moment and repeat the phrase...
"This is good because..."
Finding the good and the lessons in difficult situations allows us to positively move forward and to appreciate the lessons they provide.
If you want to conquer and ultimately OWN difficult situations, be grateful, and look for the good in every situation.
Remember, we learn so much more from our failures, than we do all of our successes.
Happy Fall Break, everyone!
