Construction Updates
Oakmont - They have roads cut and a few are even paved. They plan to have a mid-summer kick-off event with models open. I spoke to the developer and they believe they will attract some home buyers with young children.
Springbrook of Pendleton - This new subdivision is at State Road 13 and 900 South. This is just south of Summerlake. This subdivision has the silt fencing up, so dirt may be moving soon. Lennar has indicated that we would most likely not see children from there until the fall of 2020. https://www.lennar.com/new-homes/indiana/indianapolis/pendleton/springbrook
I know that many of you are concerned about growth. To be honest, South Madison needs this growth. I have not seen any plans for a future subdivision in Fall Creek or Adams townships. The growth is in Green. South Madison has had declining enrollment in the last few years and our student count is directly tied to our financial support from the State of Indiana. We do have room for more students. We have several full-size classrooms being used now for various purposes, that could serve as general education classrooms. We also have five open spots in our weekly special area schedule.
I have been asked if we will be redistricting. That is a decision the Board has to make when we actually see the student population demographics. Whatever comes, we will be ready to offer a great education to K-12 students in South Madison.

Valerie's Vision
My Work Family
This week, I celebrated my birthday with some really special people.
Most of you already know that my parents are not in the best of health. One of the most challenging things has been seeing both of them loose their “old” personalities. Seeing a loved one age can be a difficult process. While I long for them to act like the parents I grew up with, it is seldom seen.
Most importantly, this week I remembered that my work family can mean just as much as a biological family can. Having a surprise birthday trip, being surrounded by a sea of black clothes, and having the support, kind words, and actions of my work family has been overwhelming, and admittedly brought me to tears.
While this week's vision has nothing to do with how you teach your students, it has all to do with how you treat one another. In my book, one of the most important things in life is how we treat others.
I couldn’t ask for a better work family.
