2021-2022 School Year Information

We are ready to start a new school year! The first day of school is August 10.

Please read below for lots of important information. Letters are being mailed out this week, with your child's teacher assignment.

Our Open House will be Thursday, August 5th. Times are listed above. We will have Sallee Promotions selling shirts in the OES cafeteria. PTO and our Foundation will have information tables. Please bring your child's school supplies if you have them.

Currently, masks are optional for Open House. However, we are strongly encouraging non-vaccinated individuals to wear a mask . Additionally, to limit crowds, please consider having only one parent and their student attend Open House.

The First Day of School is August 10! See you soon!

First Day of School

Due to Health and Safety protocols, parents may not walk their student into the classroom. Students new to our school, or any other student needing assistance, will be greeted by our staff member and walked to class. Kindergarten students will meet their kindergarten teacher underneath the airnasium.

Dress Code

Please check our Dress Code carefully before purchasing shoes and clothing for school. Students will not be permitted to wear clothing that is not within our dress code. All uniforms should have our new logos on them.

Please note: Slip on shoes are not permitted. This includes VANS style shoes.

Sales Tax Free Week July 31 - August 9

The 2021 Back to School Sales Tax Holiday was passed by the Florida Legislature and signed into law by Governor Ron DeSantis. It will be held July 31 – August 9, 2021. During this sales tax holiday period, qualifying items will be exempt from tax including certain school supplies selling for $15 or less per item; certain clothing, footwear and accessories selling for $60 or less per item; and the first $1,000 of the sales price of personal computers and related accessories purchased for noncommercial home or personal use. For more information and to view the lists of qualifying items, visit these Florida Department of Revenue resources.

Car Riders

The Car Line map includes the path vehicles should take during arrival and dismissal times. No student will be released to a vehicle without a current year car tag. Families can pick up car tags during Open House.

If a car does not have a car tag, the driver will pull into the front parking lot and go to the front office to show ID.

Car Line Procedures

Because we have 3 schools on our campus, and limited parking and through-ways, it is essential to be courteous and respectful. In order to facilitate OMS arrival and dismissal, please do NOT arrive before 7:50 am in the morning and 3:00 pm in the afternoon. Also, in the morning, our staff utilizes the third (right) lane to arrive at their parking lot. Please allow them passage through if they are struggling to get by.

Finally, dismissal usually takes much longer than usual the first week of school. Buses might arrive later than expected and our car line usually runs twice as long as usual. Last year, the first few days of car dismissal was close to an hour. While this is not the norm, please be prepared for the delay and plan activities and appointments accordingly. Also, students will NOT be released to cars without a current, school issued car tag. Parents without a car tag will be directed to park and report to the office and have a driver's license to have their child released to them.

Lightning Alerts We are hopeful that the first week, (or any of our dismissals) will not include severe weather, but in the event of lightning in the vicinity, our school policy is to limit the exposure of our students and staff. We will send a Parent Square message to notify parents of the procedure to follow. Walkers will remain on campus, until the lightning is 10 miles or further. Parents of walkers who wish to pick up their walkers during a lightning alert, can do so by joining the car line and letting the staff member who is calling names that their child is a walker.

AM DROP OFF: All car drop off is in the back. No cars may drop off in the front, near the office, as that is where our buses unload.

AM DROP OFF PROCEDURE: Vehicles should not line up until 7:50 am. Vehicles will enter at the OHS entrance. There are two lanes of traffic. (The third lane on the right is for staff, who need to drive to their parking lot). Also, as vehicles approach the drop off location, please have your child be ready to depart, (shoes on , bookbag packed up, ready to unbuckle and depart). Parents should stay in their vehicle. For safety reasons, it is essential that students wait in their vehicles for staff to open their car door. All vehicles will remain stopped until all students have exited to the sidewalk. A staff member will signal when it is time for the lines of traffic to proceed.

PM PICK UP: K-1 and their siblings will be picked up in the front. Students in grades 2-5 will be dismissed in the back, (same as the AM Drop Off location).

PM PICK UP PROCEDURE: Cars should not line up for dismissal until after 3:00 pm. Vehicles will be directed in by our Security person at the OHS entrance to the campus and wait in line until dismissal starts at 3:30. A staff member will read the car tags as cars approach and have the cars move forward toward the pick up location. Parents should wait in their vehicle. Staff will be directing children.

Extra Car Tag

It is our school policy for all vehicles to have a current car tag, in order to pick up students. Every Open House folder will contain one car tag. If your family will need a second car tag, please complete this survey. In order to submit the survey, you will need your child's 2021-2022 teacher assignment, so it will be necessary to wait until you receive your Open House letter in the mail.

Bus Application for 2021-2022

If you have completed a bus form for your child, you will be sent home a bus assignment with your Welcome Back Letter.

If you did not completed a form, you can still fill out a request, but since the deadline has passed, the transportation department will contact you when a stop has been assigned.

Click here to complete this form.

If your primary residence in FOCUS is listed as 1.5 miles or less, and you would like your child to be dismissed with walkers, please complete this Walker Request. Students who do not live within 1.5 miles from school will not be able to dismiss as walkers.

Communication and COVID Guidelines

Systemwide and Schoolwide Communication

Once again this year, we will use Parent Square as our main form of communication. We use Parent Square for weekly information, upcoming events, changes in dismissal, weather issues, COVID notices and other pertinent information. It is vital to to be reachable through this system. It is available through email or an app.

Families who attended OES last year, will already be registered. Students who are new to OES and are not already registered in Parent Square, will receive an email invitation asking to activate the account. This email will be sent to the email you used to register, (and the email that is in FOCUS). You may need to check your junk or spam email, as it sometimes goes there.

See below for a sample of what the email will look like.

We are transitioning to many of the routines provided in a traditional school setting, but we must still ensure the safety of our students when COVID-19 is still present in our community. The following questions and guidelines are a summary of recommendations of the CDC, the Governor, and Commissioner of Education of Florida. This is subject to change based on new guidance or information, and any new developments.

Are facemasks mandatory?

No, as of 7/27, facemasks for staff and students are optional. If the staff/student chooses to wear a facemask it should fully cover the mouth and nose.

Will synchronous virtual school (live-streamed classes) be offered?

No. Teachers will have assignments posted in Google Classroom for students at home to maintain the pace and flow of instruction.

As soon as the 2021-2022 Health Policy is finalized, we will send it out to our parents.
