Summer Slice Vol. VIII

LA Staff News

Attention Needed!

The draft advisory schedules have been completed. If at all possible, we would like to have these finalized by Monday at 9 AM. This is for a number of reasons:

  • With our new "chart" for student behaviors this year, we have some frontloading work to do. To load your kids by advisory, we need to have them set and Lori needs time to enter them in PowerSchool.
  • We need to have our hours 1-6 in PowerSchool for attendance reporting purposes on day one. So, in an effort to not have Lori do a lot of double work, we would like to flush these out and try to get them in right the first time.

Please check out this link and make notes of any concerns under the table with your roster!

Big picture
Wow, this really resonated with me this summer! I feel like our building has worked tirelessly to break down all the barriers and traditional paradigms in school, and it doesn't end with our instructional programming. We THINK the "grand gestures" mentioned at the top--well planned and orchestrated--are what shapes our culture. But I think those things are the blips on the radar that may be a little bright spot in the day, puts a momentary smile on our face, or gives us something to look forward to in the future. They aren't the REAL things that light your fire for kids at Liberty Academy.

BUT, the REAL work... The ACTUAL stuff that makes you EXCITED for Monday morning, that prompts you to share interesting finds, good news, and ask questions via "15 People" group text at all hours of the day, or makes you say that you are living your most fulfilling professional role to date....that is the REAL culture builder. At the heart of all of it? People. Relationships. Authenticity of being in community. Seeking to understand others who think differently than you. Growing. Being vulnerable. Stepping outside your comfort zone. Figuring out where you fit in this masterpiece.

If Liberty Academy is a j-o-b for you, your time here will either be short-lived (because you'll seek a better fit elsewhere) or miserable. Life's too short for that. Lean in. Listen. Seek to understand. FInd your place. There is room for ALL of us. It is SO fun to watch each of you come into your own in the model that we broke and built for our kids. Liberty Academy is my calling, and as you wrap up your summer and have all those back to school feelings, I hope that you'll allow yourself to continue to BECOME--right alongside our kids--the best version of yourself at Liberty Academy.
