Month of January
Our Vision
Yorktown ISD Vision
Our vision is that our students will be prepared academically, socially, intellectually and emotionally for a continually changing world.
January is School Board Appreciation Month
January is School Board Recognition Month, and Yorktown ISD will join the Texas Association of School Boards and other districts across the state to honor the countless contributions of these locally elected advocates for Texas schoolchildren and public schools.
School board members tackle a difficult job and shoulder enormous responsibilities. It’s more important than ever before that the public support public education so that today’s students are prepared to be productive citizens and the leaders of tomorrow. Please take a moment to thank our school board members for caring about our children and giving so much to our community. Let them know we support them and that their dedicated service is recognized and truly appreciated
Thank you Nelda Sertuche, Todd Metting, Jody Hall, Deborah Kneese, David Norrell, Jr., Randy Franke, and Danette Respondek!
Junior High UIL Meet January 15
The Junior High UIL meet will be held in Falls City, Texas on Wednesday, January 15th. The bus will be leaving at 7:30 am. Yorktown ISD will be providing your child with a meal voucher for lunch. There will be a small group of students that will be asked to arrive early in order to leave with Mrs. Pustka/Mrs. Cobb. These students will be taking the first test and need to arrive before 9 am. We will let you know who these students are.
There will be an early bus departing for Falls City and arriving back in Yorktown in time for regular school dismissal at 3:40 pm. If your child is participating in Dictionary 6th, Listening 6th, Oral Reading 6th-8th, Chess 6th-8th, Impromptu 7th-8th, they will be on the late bus. The late bus will leave Falls City at 5:30 pm. We estimate the late bus will be arriving back in Yorktown before 7 pm.
Secondary Gifted and Talented Nominations
We are dedicated to helping all of our students achieve their maximum potential. In order to ensure we reach all students, we request your assistance to identify students who may have hidden talents and gifts.
According to the Texas Education Code, a ‘gifted and talented student’ is a child who performs at or shows the potential to perform at a remarkably high level of accomplishment when compared to others of the same age, experience, or environment and who:
Exhibits high-performance capability in an intellectual, creative, or artistic area;
Possesses an unusual capacity for leadership; or
Excels in a specific academic field.
If you feel your child exhibits characteristics of giftedness, please complete the nomination form. Nomination forms can be picked up in the Junior HS or High School office by students and/or parents. The nomination form can also be accessed online or via the link in the January parent newsletter. All nomination forms must be submitted to the office by Monday, January 27, 2020.
The next step in the process will be the completion of a parent informational survey and consent to test. This packet will be sent home by Friday, January 31, 2020 and must be returned to the counselor by Friday, February 7, 2020.
We will have an optional informational meeting for parents on Thursday, January 16th at 5:00 p.m. in the Junior High School Library.
