Go Live Date - May 31, 2016
Why the end of the school year?
Over the past year Information and Technology Services has been training school and district staff in the Google Apps for Education. The May 31st conversion date will give us the ability to complete our training pattern, continue to provide uninterrupted resources by converting school based staff before the summer break, and allow us to provide additional training for 11 and 12 month employees during the summer. If you were not able to attend school based training earlier in the year, additional training opportunities for 10 month employees (including teachers) will be made available during the Clay Connected Conference at the start of the 2016-17 school year.
What other dates were considered?
Converting over the summer break will cause an interruption of service for 10 and 11 month personnel. A sizeable number of people check their e-mail over the summer and this would create a gap in continuity.
Pre-planning is one of the most hectic times of the year for school based staff. Information and Technology Services sees a massive increase in submitted tickets during this time frame. The Google Conversion will require a good deal of support and a pre-planning “Go Live” is not optimal for a conversion.
Fall (September-October)While more feasible than Pre-planning or Summer, schools will want to use the Google Apps to support initiatives at the beginning of the year. This is a bit late to start the conversion and is almost a year and a half since the process started.
What do I need to do to get ready for the May 31st conversion?
Let’s take this a week at a time. We will continue sending these emails through the rest of this school year. If you follow along each week, then you will be all set for the conversion on May 31st. The topics will include next steps for Gmail, Calendars, and Drive.
