Music
5th grade has been working on recorders and we'll be getting back to learning to read tabs for finger picking as well as more advanced chords on the ukulele. We will also be practicing using more strumming patterns to add more rhythmic interest to our accompaniments.
4th grade has been working on learning more pitches on the recorder. We're working towards a common assessment that all 4th graders in Moffat County take on recorders at the end of this month.
3rd graders just completed their music show (and they performed so well!) and so now we will be getting back to learning basics on ukulele, such as beginning finger picking and basic chords.
2nd grade will have their music show on Tuesday, February 4 at 6:00 PM. The theme for their show is taken from the book, "Where the Wild Things Are" by Maurice Sendak. We're working hard to learn all our songs for the show, but are also learning how to strum the ukulele.
1st graders are learning basic musical components such as the pitches so and mi, and the quarter rest. We're learning how to count and read music, how to keep a steady beat, and how to sing tunefully.
Kindergarteners have been learning musical opposites. We are working on the opposites of high and low.
All the classes have also been learning about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in recognition of his birthday and holiday this month. Kinder through 2nd grade learned a song called, Dr. King. Ask your younger student to sing it for you at home! Our 3rd through 5th graders have learned a song titled, "He Had a Dream." It's become a music class favorite for many of our classes. Have fun singing it together at home!

Physical Education
2020 is here and we are already in full swing here in Physical Education. With a new year, there are new changes, new challenges, and new ways to help our students grow! I hope this letter finds you well and I hope you are having a great start to the year!
Staying active during the winter time is important. The Center for Disease Control (CDE.Gov) states, "Aerobic activity should make up most of your child's 60 or more minutes of physical activity each day. This can include either moderate-intensity aerobic activity, such as brisk walking, or vigorous-intensity activity, such as running. Be sure to include vigorous-intensity aerobic activity on at least 3 days per week".
