A Message From Heather Patterson, GRHS Principal

Happy Sunday GRHS Longhorns,

One week down and lots going on at the Ranch already! Remember your GOOD CHOICES matter...every little bit matters! If it comes out of your mouth, make sure it's truthful, helpful, thoughtful, and kind.

Course selection night was a GR-eat success due to all our staff showing up big to help and spotlight all the opportunities we offer our Longhorns! Thanks to the 300+ parents/students that joined us that night to explore their options. If you were not able to attend I have included the bulk of the information below, please take some time to look through this prior to choosing your courses for the 23-24 school year. You need to make an informed pathway choice now, so that you will be able to finish strong by following the correct course sequence and completing it to gain an industry certification. You may even be able to earn an associate's degree at the same time, as you witnessed with one of our student's last year at graduation. This was a FIRST for LCISD, so let's keep leading the pack Longhorns by being strategic now when choosing your classes so we can ensure that you are College or Career ready when walking out our front doors!

Safety reminders:

  • Correct ID's on at all times when you enter our building.
  • Do not open exterior doors for ANYONE (even if you know them) - if it is locked, they must walk around and check in through the front office.
  • ATTENTION DRIVERS - Student drivers, please stay in your lane when entering and exiting the parking lots. Be patient, and wait your turn by alternating who pulls out next. Parents are sending me emails AGAIN about your wreckless driving and disrespectful behavior. I know that your own parents would not be proud of this. If this is you, fix it! I do have pictures, so your driving/parking privileges are about to be suspended. We will be reaching out to those individuals this week and your parents to discuss the options and requirements moving forward. Make better choices or your privileges will be taken away. Student driving and parking at the Ranch are just that...a privilege...not a right. Parents please speak to your student about this. There will be no more warnings, just consequences. Not following driving safety laws is not an option. Your lack of urgency to adhere to these expectations and the damage you will cause is not worth taking a life. Please fix it, so I do not have to intervene.

New Year - Same Rule! ID Weekly Reminder

ID MUST be worn visibly on the top half of your body EVERY DAY! I announce this EVERY SINGLE MORNING. If you cannot find yours please scan the Blue/Yellow QR code in this newsletter, in the classrooms, or hanging in the front of the school service window to buy one. We will continue to do ID sweeps, and anyone without one will be charged $5 and given a new one. This is NOT optional, as it is part of dress code, but more importantly a safety measure so we can quickly see who belongs and who does not on campus.

WEARING YOUR ID IS MANDATORY EVERY DAY FOR STAFF AND STUDENTS. $5 REPLACEMENT CHARGE

Student badges will serve as the student ID and SmartTag all in one card. With this ID our GRHS students are able to ride the bus, purchase breakfast/lunch, check out library books, able to use their personal devices (phones/airpods, etc) during lunch and advisory.

Refusing to wear your ID visibly on the top half of your body, is not an option, and will result in the consequences stated on the consequence chart below. Please make sure you are wearing your OWN ID.

Every GRHS student has been gifted an ID, protective plastic cover, and lanyard. It is imperative that our Longhorns adhere to this expectation, as this is part of the daily dress code for staff and students. If you need another badge or lose this one there is a $5 replacement cost. This is NOT optional, it is part of dress code. You can pay by cash or it will be charged to your student library account, for EACH replacement you need. Please note that a hold will be placed on your semester grades, transcripts, and final exemptions if this fine is not cleared.

Need a REPLACEMENT ALREADY?

If you are needing to PURCHASE ANOTHER student ID, please use the QR code (above) to request one. You can either pay $5 cash when you pick it up, or we will charge your school library account if you do not have cash. Emails will be sent in Skyward to parent and student emails each time you are charged.

Please Review the Early Pick Up Procedures!

The girls soccer team competed in the top bracket of the Waller Classic this weekend. Despite a rough start dropping 0-2 games to both Tompkins and Lake Belton. In true Longhorn fashion they did not let this get the best of them and they came back with a 1-0 (PK) victory over Clear Falls. This brings the girls record to 1-2-1 heading into district play Tuesday when they open up against Clements!
