DISTRICT TO CLOSE CAMPUSES INDEFINITELY
To slow the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in our community, all DeSoto ISD schools will close indefinitely. This action follows advice from the Dallas County Health and Human Services department (DCHHS). We recognize the significant impact this extended closure will have on the entire community, especially for families who depend on the district for critical services. While our classrooms are empty, our work on behalf of children continues. We have activated at-home learning, our teachers are prepared to begin distance instruction, and Chartwells, DeSoto ISD Food and Child Nutrition Services provider, will distribute meals at select campus locations. These sites will become central locations for family and student resource distribution in the coming weeks. Please expect additional messages with updates and visit www.DeSotoISD.org/CoronaVirus for more information. Thank you for working with us as we unite with organizations across the community to respond to COVID-19.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING DISTANCE LEARNING!
DISTANCE LEARNING PLAN
DeSoto ISD has created a plan for student learning and a collection of resources for families to accommodate our immediate and indefinite closure for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. Click here for details.
Publisher Approved Read Alouds
As educators move to remote learning, many are worrying and wondering about reading books aloud online and possibly violating copyright laws. In response, many children's publishers have temporarily altered policies.

Happy Handwashing Song
Wash Your Hands
Happy Hand washing Song
One of the most important ways to prevent contracting Coronavirus or other infectious diseases is by washing your hands. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says that twenty seconds is the minimum amount of time people should spend scrubbing with soap and water to properly disinfect their hands. Since most people don't time themselves when they wash their hands, the CDC came up with a simple technique to make sure that we all take the time that we need to get our hands clean. They recommend singing two verses of a familiar song like "Happy Birthday" while washing your hands. This method works especially well with children, which is why the CDC came up with a video geared towards our younger germ fighters. Please share with them as we all work together to stay healthy and disease-free!

Ready…set…action!
Teaching good behavior doesn’t just mean telling children how to act. It also means showing them by being a good role model.
Here are 5 tips for being a good role model:
- Be Honest: Always be honest and don’t be afraid to admit when you are wrong.
- Use good manners. Say “please” and “thank you” often.
- Be respectful. Don’t gossip or say mean things about other people.
- Be a good listener. Don’t interrupt others when talking.
- Handle conflicts calmly. Work with the other person to find a solution. Don’t react in anger.
Praise me, please!
All children love positive, specific feedback. But just saying “Good Job” can get old - for you and your child.
Here are a few unique ways to give praise:
· That was very thoughtful of you.
- You’re really getting the hang of it now!
- How responsible of you. You’re really growing up!
- I couldn’t have done that better myself!
- I can see you really put a lot of effort into that.
- I like how you [cleaned your room, took turns, etc.]
Your [patience, hard work, etc.] amazes me.
