All in-person students (girls age 10 and 12 and boys age 13) will have their annual spinal screening on Monday, May 17th. These screenings are required by the state. For the screenings, please note that the girls will need to wear a sports bra or swimsuit top as they must remove their shirts for the examination.

Parents, all medication must be picked up by 1:00pm on Friday, May 28th. Students are not allowed to take their own medication home. A parent/guardian is required to sign it out. All medication that is not picked up will be disposed of. The district is not allowed to hold medication over the summer break. If your child has medication in the health office, both prescription and over the counter, please put this date on your calendar and make arrangements to come to the school. Thank you!

State law requires students in all grades in Texas schools to be immunized against certain vaccine-preventable diseases. In addition to vaccines your child has already received, state law requires:

· 1 dose of the meningococcal conjugate (MCV4) vaccine

· 1 dose of the tetanus-diphtheria-acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccine

· 2nd varicella Vaccine

The full vaccine requirements K-12th grade students can be found on the DSHS Immunization Unit website at

Due to expected weather (thunderstorms) as well as other after school activities on campus next week, we have decided to postpone our Cheer clinic and tryouts as it was planned to be outside.

New dates: June 28-July 1

This camp will be mandatory for all students (both returning and new to Newman) that desire to be a part of Cheer next school year. If you plan on being out of town that week, please let me know.

Thank you!

As a way of improving our campus ability to successfully communicate, we were promoting School Messenger (Skylert). With the short time we have been using this we have received feedback that emails coming from Skylert were going to junk boxes or not being received when our records were showing all messages were sent. These messages send to the primary email for each guardian on file in Skyward.

One fix for this issue is to go into the email settings for your personal email and mark the Skylert email as safe, so messages will show in your general inbox. Another way is we encourage parents to download and start using the SchoolMessenger app. I have shared the link below with helpful information about the app, as well as a picture of the app logo. All you need for registration is the email that is on record in Skyward that was previously given when enrolling your student at Newman.
