Two Rivers Reading Council

Fall Edition

A message from the president of TRRC

Hello everyone and welcome back to a new school year!! My name is Christine Throop and I am the new President of Two Rivers Reading Council!! I hope everyone is off to a great start!! Let me take a moment and tell you a little about myself. I have been teaching for thirty-one years. I was a special education teacher and reading specialist in grades K-2 for twenty-one years. During that time, I taught Reading Recovery as well. I have been a fifth-grade teacher for the last ten years. My passion is teaching kids the love of reading.

I joined the Two Rivers Reading Council Board in 2015. It is a wonderfully, strong organization, that has been around for many years, 44 to be exact. Two Rivers is part of Illinois Reading Council, which is one of the strongest state councils in the country. If you are a member, you know of the many benefits such as the copy of The IRC Reading Journal that you receive, access to professional development through IRC, Wired Wednesdays, and the Book Club and much more. In addition to those PD opportunities, Two Rivers offers professional development throughout the school year at no cost to members. Please watch your e-mail for upcoming events and like us on face book; Two Rivers Reading Council.

I hope you will take the time to get to know us through our upcoming Social event at Grapes and Hops in Kankakee, Illinois at 4:30 on Tuesday September 26, 2017.

Building Rep Spotlight

Hello! My name is Ashley Nogoda and I have the privilege of being the Manteno Middle School Building Representative for the 2017/18 school year. I am a recent graduate from Olivet Nazarene University, obtaining a degree in Elementary Education with endorsements in Language Arts, Science, and Social Science. It has been a blast teaching 6th grade Language Arts at Manteno Middle School, and I have enjoyed transitioning from a Tiger to a Panther. In my free time I like to sing in the worship band at church, teach Indoor Cycling, and root for the Chicago Cubs. I am excited to be apart of Two Rivers this year!
