***IMPORTANT CHANGES***
4-day in-person instruction for hybrid students
Lexington-Richland School District Five will transition in-person students from a hybrid schedule to a 4-day in-person instructional schedule. The transition will occur in three (3) phases, with 4K-2 grade students attending school 4 days a week beginning on Oct. 5. Students in grades 3-6 will begin attending school 4 days a week on Oct. 19, and students in grades 7-12 will join other grades in attending school 4 days a week beginning on Nov. 9. Wednesday will continue to be a distance learning day for students who attend school in-person.
All four-year old preschool programs will return to a full-day program on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Three-year-old programs will continue with half-day programming, as this is their typical schedule.
Superintendent Dr. Christina Melton announced the change during a school Board meeting on Monday (Sept. 28). The district's Flexible Innovative Virtual Education (FIVE) virtual program will continue during all in-person learning models.
Phases of Reentry:
- PHASE II - 4K-2 Grades
OCTOBER 5*
Beginning October 5, in-person students in grades 4K through 2 will attend school 4 days per week. Grades 3-12 will remain hybrid.
- PHASE III - 3-6 Grades
OCTOBER 19*
Beginning October 19, in-person students in grades 4K through 6 will attend school 4 days per week. Grades 7-12 will remain hybrid.
- PHASE IV - 7-12 Grades
NOVEMBER 9*
Beginning November 9, in-person students in grades 4K through 12 will attend school 4 days per week.
*NOTE: Schools may utilize a 100% distance learning model during any phase if needed in response to COVID-19. Phases and dates can be modified, contingent upon reentry considerations outlined in the Sept. 28 presentation.
Instructional Model Change Requests
School District Five has asked that families of elementary school students commit to at least a quarter and that families of secondary students commit to at least a semester before requesting a change in their instructional option.
- Request Forms:
To request a change from one instructional model to another, parents/guardians will complete online forms, which will be available on school and district websites during the request windows for elementary students and secondary students. Requests will be considered based on available space and schedule/class availability.
- Request Windows:
- Elementary (K-5): The form opens Monday, October 5, 2020 and closes Friday, October 16, 2020.
- Secondary (6-12): The form opens Monday, November 9, 2020 and closes Friday, November 20, 2020.
- Implementation of Instructional Model Changes (per requests):
- Elementary (K-5): Start of 2nd quarter: Thursday, November 12, 2020.
- Secondary (6-12): Start of 2nd semester: Wednesday, February 3, 2021.
School District Five families requesting admission into FIVE or a change to their in-person schedule after the elementary and/or secondary request window will be placed on a hardship waiting list.
IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
All students must wear a mask and practice social distancing while at school.
Visitors will not be allowed to enter the school at this time.
It is recommended that students bring their own water bottle which can be filled at water bottle stations as needed.
Upon arrival students needing to eat breakfast will report to the cafeteria. All other students will report to the gym.
IDs must be worn around the neck for all students when on school campus. Students will be charged $1 for every day that they need a temporary ID. If an ID is missing, a replacement is $5 and a lanyard is $1.
Students can arrive at school between 7:50 am and 8:25 am. Adequate supervision is not available until this time for all students.
School ends at 3:30 pm. Please make sure your student knows their bus number in the afternoon or how they will be getting home each day
Words from our Nurse
All students need to have a tDap vaccination prior to starting 7th grade. If you have not already done so, please send in your child's proof of their tDap vaccination. Thirty (30) day exemption letters have been sent out to those students that we do not have a record of their vaccination. This will give you 30 days to provide proof of the vaccination. After that time, the student will not be able to attend classes until we have proof of the vaccination.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to call the health room at 803-476-3609.

Technology Corner
Chromebooks must be charged every night and brought to school daily. Remember, chargers are not to be brought to school. Chromebooks are property of Lexington/Richland School District Five and are to be used for educational purposes. Gaming, chatting, and otherwise playing on the device will run the battery down quickly and not allow the device to be used throughout the entire day. It is also against the Acceptable Use Agreement. If you have any questions about devices, please check out the Technology page on the LexRich 5 website. You are also welcome to email April Garrett (agarrett@lexrich5.org), Irmo Middle School's Digital Integration Specialist.
