Kindergarten Beach Buddies
Oct 1-5, 2018
Hello K Families!
Great to see so many of you at Pastries for Parents. I hope you enjoyed the morning. We spent much of the week reading and writing about fall in anticipation for our trip to Fair Haven Farms on Thursday. What a great day we had! It was chilly, but sunny and dry! The fruit was tasty and signs of fall were plentiful.
Fair Haven Photos
We are lucky enough to have a professional photographer in our class family! Isabella's mom joined us at Fair Haven and took beautiful pictures of our class. You can check them out at the link below. Password: fairhaven. AND we can download them! Thank you VERY much, Danielle!

** I have many pictures too and will share those next week!
Kindergarten Learning
Writers' Workshop
In writers' workshop we practiced CHECKING each page of our story for pictures and words. We continue to STRETCH our words like a slinky to hear all the sounds. Practice this word stretching at home too. Have your child help you write the grocery list to practice!
Word Workshop
We continue to complete name activities to work on letter id, letter sounds, and syllables. We are working on neatly writing letters starting at the top.
Math Workshop
In math this week we focused on those TRICKY TEENS. Please practice these at home-- esp. 13 and 15. We also compared numbers, examined tens frames, and measured.
Readers' Workshop
This week we examined the difference between fiction and nonfiction books. We began sharing our thinking with special "thinking partners".
On the Road Readers
The kindergartners were very proud to bring home their first book packets last week. Thanks for taking the time to read these books at home. When reading the book at your child's level (with a smile face sticker on the front), be sure your child is pointing to the first letter of each word while reading.
Kindergarten Rhyming
Rhyming is an important skill in kindergarten. Practice rhyming while driving in the car. Try naming 2 words and have your child tell you if they rhyme. Then change jobs-- have your child name word pairs that rhyme and don't rhyme.
Life Book
We have received quite a few artifacts for our Life Book - thank you! Please send in your artifacts if you haven't already. Remember artifacts can be anything special that the kinders can glue into their "Life Book" and write about. This could be a picture, candy wrapper, ticket stub, picture from the newspaper, program from a play, magazine page, etc.
Imagination Day
On Friday, October 26th we will have Imagination Day! The kindergartners are invited to wear something to school that they "want to be in their imagination" or "want to be when they grow up". Please make sure costumes are non-violent and school appropriate. Looking forward to the fun day!
Technology to Share...
Check out our blog for our Signs of Fall video.
iPad Apps
Ocean House Media
Looking for quality BOOK apps for the iPad? The company Ocean House Media is my very favorite. Your child will love interacting with these familiar books.
Upcoming Important Dates:

Wednesday, October 17: Walk to the Fire Station
October 18-19 : Fall Break
October 24: Unity Day...wear orange

Wishing you peace
and everything good,
Katie
