News from this week
Dear Parents,
Next Tuesday, Dec. 20 at 10:15 is our class Holiday party. We will be doing a small craft and having a pot luck lunch. Parents are welcome to join us. Alison Makely sent home information about the party in last week's Friday folder, as well as by email. If you have not yet responded to her regarding what you will bring, please make sure to email her as soon as possible - alisonmakely@gmail.com
The Technology homework for this week is a creating a cartoon strip based on one chapter from their book club books. The homework is due on Tuesdy, Dec. 20 and we will share them as a class. Please make sure your child completes this homework over the weekend and posts it for me to view. They have instructions on how to do this and it is on my website as well.
The Six Flags reading log came home in last week's Friday folder. Please be sure to put it in a safe place and complete it for the next 3 weeks as your child reads. The Six Flags Reading log is due when we return to school after winter break. Online logs will NOT be accepted in its place. Students who log 6 hours of reading and record it on the sheet will receive a free entry ticket to Six Flags. Tickets come home in May and can be redeemed over the summer months.
I hope everyone has a wonderful and warm weekend!

Gwin Oaks Witzzle Pro Team
All 4th and 5th grade students are invited to join the Gwin Oaks Witzzle Pro Team. Witzzle Pro is a thinking game that uses multiple math operations. Players roll the dice to get a target number, and try to find that target number on the Witzzle Pro card using three numbers in a row. Players score points for correct answers, and the player with the most points is the winner. This mind-sharpening and fun number game is designed to help students improve their mental math ability. The Witzzle Pro team practices on Wednesday and Friday mornings at 7:15 am. Practice will start on Wednesday, December 7th. Team members will compete in the Brookwood Cluster Witzzle Pro Tournament on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at Craig Elementary School. The school winner will go on to compete at the Gwinnett County Tournament.

News from the Media Center
Reading is My Super Power
This year’s school wide reading program is Reading is My Super Power. The program started on Friday, August 19th. Students will answer super hero related trivia questions in the Media Center each week to hone their research skills. At home each child is expected to read for at least 20 minutes each night and return their reading logs each Friday or Monday (depending on your child’s teacher’s schedule).
Students who turn in their reading logs every week will attend a reading celebration at the end of the school year. In order for a log to be counted for the week it needs to be submitted on time.
To assist with the reading logs please do the following:
1. PLEASE make sure your child’s FIRST and most importantly LAST name are on the log. We have to enter data for almost 1000 students. If even 10% don’t have their full name this omission adds an extra hour to our data entry.
2. PLEASE turn logs in when they are due. Your teacher will tell you the due date.
3. PLEASE add your child’s reading time in MINUTES. To understand why this is important read request #1.
You may also submit your child’s reading log electronically through the Gwin Oaks website. Fill in information with your child’s information (including your child’s teachers and grade from the drop down menu) and click submit. Email your child’s teacher to let him/her know log was submitted electronically to the Media Center. If you have any questions please email Mrs. Amolo at sharon_amolo@gwinnett.k12.ga.us
