Staying Connected
Week of May 18, 2020
What a beautiful spring weekend! Hopefully many of you enjoyed the outdoors. I loved opening the windows and enjoying the fresh air. It also prompted my to wash all of the windows and sills. Now onto the garden!
Thank you for supporting your child/children in completing their remote learning. You are doing a great job while juggling work and home. As shared before, the teacher assigned lessons and activities all support new learning. For teacher review, please send your child's completed work to their teacher. This week Specials have included new activities which can be worked on throughout the next two weeks. We made some adjustments to the second grade work and provided a daily format to access all videos and activities within one PDF. The second grade team really tried to balance the activities each day so as to not be too overwhelming and the Friday workload is lighter and provides time to catch up on any of the assignments from the week.
We continue to be open to feedback!
Counselors' Corner
Dear Woodland Families,
It is common for young children, especially now, to struggle with handling difficult feelings. However, we can help our children by teaching them how to calm down, identify their feelings, and consider healthy, cooperative, and safe choices. Your children have been learning self-regulation skills at school. Self-regulation is the ability to manage your emotions and behavior according to the demands of the situation. It includes being able to resist highly emotional reactions to upsetting events, to calm yourself down when you get upset, to adjust to a change in expectations, and to handle frustration without an outburst.
Please watch this fun video on how to create a "calm down tool kit" and a "sensory jar" with your family! It can easily be made into a "scavenger hunt" to find "tools" that work for your child.
