Important Update
March 13, 2020
Dear Parents/Guardians,
The Minister of Education in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer has announced the scheduled closure of all Manitoba public schools beginning March 23, 2020 and extending through April 10, 2020. The provincial announcement was made at 2:30pm today. Schools will remain open the week of March 16-20.
As noted in our previous email, we respect the rights of parents/guardians to keep their children at home during a pandemic. Safety is a concern for all. Those choosing to exercise this option during the week of March 16-20 should inform their child’s school as per regular absence procedures.
As noted in our previous email, this situation is evolving rapidly. We will continue to inform and update as we become aware.
Yours Sincerely,
Randy Dueck, Superintendent-CEO
Hanover School Division
Talking With Children
TIPS FOR CAREGIVERS, PARENTS, AND TEACHERS DURING INFECTIOUS DISEASE
OUTBREAKS
What You Should Know
When children and youth watch news on TV about an infectious disease outbreak, read about
it in the news, or overhear others discussing it, they can feel scared, confused, or anxious—as
much as adults. This is true even if they live far from where the outbreak is taking place and are at little to no actual risk of getting sick. Young people react to anxiety and stress differently than adults. Some may react right away; others may show signs that they are having a difficult time much later. As such, adults do not always know when a child needs help.
