what is a plastic surgeon?

Plastic surgeon is a special type of surgery that can involve both a person's appearance and ability to function. Plastic surgeons strive to improve patients' appearance and self-image through both reconstructive and cosmetic procedures. Reconstructive procedures correct defects on the face or body.

Education requirements

Before entering medical school, aspiring surgeons have to complete undergraduate school to earn bachelor's degrees. These 4-year degrees do not have to focus specifically on medicine; however, curricula should focus heavily on sciences to prepare students for the strong emphasis on science in medical school. Courses in anatomy, biology, chemistry, math and physiology may be beneficial.

the median income for a plastic surgeon was $270,000 as of 2011. While 54 percent of plastic surgeons earned $300,000 or less per year, 30 percent reported annual incomes of between $300,000 and $500,000, and 16 percent made $500,000 or more per year.
