DPM Newsletter - 11.18.22
Friday, November 18, 2022
Dear DPM Families,
We’ve had a week full of learning, basketball, floor hockey, and a band concert. What a way to end the first trimester of the school year!
With the arrival of winter comes the holiday season and its many celebrations and travel opportunities. We want to remind families of the importance of consistent student attendance and encourage students to avoid missing school as much as possible. Our goal is to reduce the number of chronic absences for our students and in turn, mitigate the risk for academic difficulties in the future. We know that chronic absence — missing 10 percent or more of school due to absence for any reason - can translate into negative impacts on academic outcomes. This includes excused or unexcused absences including social absences.
Deer Path Middle School is taking a comprehensive approach that begins with engaging students and families in an attempt to prevent chronic absenteeism before students fall behind academically. As such, DPM will be sending home letters to families of students who have missed 10 percent or more of school so far this school year. Please contact the administration at Deer Path if you have questions or need additional information. Thank you in advance for your partnership.
Sincerely,
Megan Eigenrauch, 5/6 Principal
Sam Paulsen, 7/8 Principal

Construction Update
Deerpath Road Closure - This Weekend!
This is a friendly reminder that Deerpath Road will be completely closed between Route 41 and Ahwahnee Lane from Friday, Nov. 18 at 7 pm through Monday, Nov. 21 at 5 am for ComEd's new bridge deck to be lifted into place.
Deerpath Road will remain open to local traffic from Green Bay Road to Ahwahnee Lane. Drivers are encouraged to use Green Bay Road south to Westleigh Road to access both Route 41 and Waukegan Road. The Route 41 exit and entrance ramps will remain open, but Deerpath will only be accessible west of the closure. After this closure, there will be periodic lane shifts along Deerpath Road while ComEd works to complete the project by the end of the year.

Fall Band Concert Recording
We want to congratulate our 6th-, 7th-, and 8th-grade band musicians on a successful Fall Concert earlier this week. The students were thrilled to be performing live and we appreciate the ongoing support of our DPM families who came out for an evening of seriously great music. Bravo to our students and to our band directors: Ms. Gina DeGregoria and Mr. Corey Ames! Here’s the link to the recorded livestream if you weren't able to attend.

Mornings with Megan
Date: 12/9
Time & Location: 8:35 am - 9:35 am
Focus: Start your day with a quick chat to discuss what is on the hearts and minds of middle schoolers. This is an unstructured talk where we will discuss the real issues that are impacting our middle school students on a regular basis and a way for parents to keep the school informed of hopes, concerns, and rising trends. You will have an opportunity to hear and share new ideas, as well as brainstorm together with Megan in an informal setting.
Social Media
Date: 12/13
Time & Location: Haskins Center, 5:00 pm - 5:45 pm

With access to many different social media platforms at their fingertips, there are a lot of opportunities for kids to connect with information and each other. However, that is not always a good thing. Learn about the different social media apps and how kids are using them. We will also discuss ways to monitor your child's use of social media and how to talk with them about it.
