The Mikhaylovsky castle
In front of the Summer Garden, on the opposite side of the river Moyka, you will see a terracotta - colour building. It was constructed for Paul I.
14 kilometres to the west of Peterhof there is another park and palace comlex, that of Oranienbaum ( the town is also called Lomonosov). It includes three architectural ensembles: the Large ( Mneshikov's) Palace, Peterstadt and the Proper Dacha with its main buildings - the Chinese Palace and the Sliding Hill pavilion.
The Russian Museum
The Russian Museum (former Mikhaylovsky Palace) is main building of the Arts Square. It was built as a wedding gift of the tsar Alexander I for his son Mikhail. The project of the palace and square was designed by the great Italian architect Carlo Rossi in the Empire style.
