A MESSAGE FROM DEPUTY GRAHAM

FROM THE ICAC TASK FORCE:

SEXTING TIPS FOR PARENTS AND YOUTH

During this pandemic there has been a dramatic increase in our nation’s youth online activities. The ICAC Task Forces are seeing a rise in self-generated sexually explicit material by children… from some younger than 8-years old. This material is also known as sexting, nudes or child sexual abuse material (child pornography). With a generation of youth as online content creators, it is important for parents to have open communication with their children about content sharing. With both boys and girls involved in sexting behaviors, parents need to have age appropriate conversations with their children, beginning as soon as they have access to any technological device. Conversations with youth should include these sentiments with a clear follow up explanation as to why it is so important to NOT SEND, NOT ask others and NOT share sexually explicit images or videos. JAMA Pediatrics, Prevalence of Multiple Forms of Sexting Behavior Among Youth, April 2018: 14.8% teens sent and 27.4% received asext 12% forwarded a sext without consent

NEWS FROM THE LANDRUM PTO

Staff Holiday Gifts and Lunch

It was a pleasure and an honor to host the entire staff of Landrum Middle School to a beautiful holiday lunch this past Wednesday. The amount of parents who gave through the PTO to the staff was amazing. At the meal, Vice Principal Sirak led a getting-to-know you game that left echoes of laughter down the Landrum hallways. We also had the honor of providing every staff member with the gift of an ornament filled with a little bit of extra special cheer that they can spend over the holiday! The staff was grateful to you, our parents, for your kindness, support and generosity. Thank you to the families who gave to the staff in this way. They had wonderful time and will be heading out on winter break knowing that we see and appreciate all of them!

No Lion Left Behind Family Gifts

Last week we shared an Amazon wishlist with our Landrum PTO members. The wishlist contained toys, games and clothes that a few of our Lion families needed a little help with purchasing for their children this year. As soon as we sent out the email, the response was swift and overwhelming! All of the items on the wishlist were paid for in a matter of hours and Amazon gift cards continued to be donated over the next few days. The outpouring of support from our lion community to our lions in need was heartwarming. Thank you for helping ensure that No Lion is Left Behind this holiday season.

We would like to wish all of our Landrum families and staff a fulfilling, invigorating winter break and we cannot wait to see you all in 2022!

With gratitude,

Kristin Glunt, PTO President, on behalf of the LMS PTO Board
