PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Lincoln Annex was busy this Spring! In March students were able to showcase their multiplication skills during the March Multiplication Madness Competition. We approached Spring Break in April and Grade Levels and Classes went against each other in our school Volleyball Tournament. As we opened up May we recognized our students who received all A’s with the Principal’s Honor Roll, all A’s and B’s with Honor Roll, Perfect Attendance and the Lion’s Pride Award at our Awards Assembly for students in Grades 4-8. We continue to practice for our Math 24 Game and 5th Grade Spelling Bee and we look forward to our Spring Concert. As we begin to work our way through the last part of the school year we are eagerly looking forward to our end of the year activities!
Thank You,
Ms. Treadway

GETTING IT ALL IN !
Math Fun - GAME 24 Competition
Once again, it's time for the district math challenge called Game 24. Our Math Specialist, Mrs. Friedman coordinates this activity by recruiting student and staff volunteers to participate on the Game 24 team to represent our school in the districtwide competition. Game 24 consists of a series of timed rounds for participants to accumulate points as individuals, but also for their school team. Students use the 4 numbers on a card, one time each, and any of the four basic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and/or division) to make 24. Cards are worth 1-3 points, ranked by how many pathways there are to solve it.
The Lincoln Lions team won first place in 2 of the competitions last year. We're vying for first place in all of them this year!
This year's district competitions will begin with our 4th/5th grade team on May 31, followed by our 6th & 7th graders competing on June 1st, and ending with our 8th graders competing against district 9th graders on June 2 at NBHS.
There is also a staff competition, which will take place on June 5.
5th Grade Spelling Bee
On Thursday April 27th six students earned their way to participate in the district spelling bee on June 1, 2023. Mrs. Reece, Language Arts Specialist, along with the 5th grade teachers organized this event.
In 2019 the Lincoln Lions were the district spelling bee champions !
Spelling Bee winners representing LNA are: Jessica Santiago (1st place winner), Marlyn Sanchez, Julien Rodriguez, Katherine Avelar, Isaiah Mangar, and Jesus Camarillo (alternate).
Students competing in the main competition of the Multiplication Madness Challenge
Multiplication Madness
Five LNA students reached the level of champions in the Multiplication Madness challenge held March 30, 2023. Students: AJ Woods (4th grade), Marlyn Sanchez Gonzalez (5th grade), Cristelle Caque (6th grade), Yarexsi Taipe Garcia (7th grade), and Elijah Castaneda (8th grade) finished first place against their classroom grade level classmates.
Multiplication Madness motivated students to learn their multiplication facts through participation in the fun filled, interactive, virtual car race game called, "Grand Prix". Round 1 of this competition pitted students from each classroom against each other. Using the “Grand Prix “website students raced around a virtual track, using their speed to answer multiplication facts as acceleration for their virtual car. Those classroom winners then moved on to the main competition where the one winner from each grade level was decided.

Progress: Creating A Phone Free Educational Environment
In a recent unofficial poll, school staff and students agreed that the newly instituted Yondr program is headed in the right direction. There are three target areas that will eventually determine the program's success. They are improved academic performance, improved student behavior, and improved student engagement. Most of the questioned staff and students indicated they have seen improved "student engagement and focus' since Yondr's implementation on April 4, 2023.
During morning arrival students have been instructed to turn their phones off, and place them in the lock proof Yondr pouch where they are kept by the student until dismissal.
In spite of objections by some students, the program is moving along and progressing.
Some favorable observations have been: "students are paying more attention in class", "less distractions", "less hallway traffic", "less to no arranged hallway visits".
There have been signs of improved student / teacher relationships.
