Bulldog Bark
March 16-20, 2020
Play and Create
This week in Onward, we continue to focus on playing and creating. In the blog Can Creativity Help During Stressful Times?, Janet Baird shares insight about the benefits of creativity as discussed by Psychotherapist, Nicola Vanlint. Those benefits include:
- freedom
- self-awareness and expression
- faith and confidence in our instincts
- stress relief
- problem solving
Have you seen the 5th Grade Arcade Game video Colin shared last week? Just imagine how all five of the benefits of creativity came to fruition in the all-encompassing experience! Our fifth grade students emulated creativity and play... imagine what we, as adults, can do! :) Take time for you today, time to decompress, and time to revisit Yellow Zone's 'reflect on three good things' each day!

Author/Illustrator Terri Michels in Residence March 31, 2020
Imagine this, your students engaged in conversation with a popular children’s author or illustrator. Asking questions about book ideas, about characters in a book, about pictures matching the story. When authors and illustrators share ideas about writing and illustrating, students listen. A visit from an author or illustrator can expose students to a wondrous world of reading, writing and illustrating. As authors and illustrator come to speak to young people, they often inspire them to want to read great books and write with more confidence.
Students in local elementary classrooms meet an established author/illustrator who share their personal adventures of creating and publishing books. This program encourages the love of reading and inspires students to write and illustrate. They will share how they generate ideas that turn into stories, what inspires them, the publishing process, some of the challenges and the successes, trials and errors.
- Here is a sample statement that can be used to email or send home to parents. Note to Parents about Book Orders
