February 2024
Families,
Take a look below and some important information:
Stranger Danger
We have had some reports of an individual approaching students up on Toliver RD and asking them questions. The Molalla Police Department is aware and know who the individual person may be. They will continue to be vigilant in their patrols around the MES areas. This is always a good reminder to speak with your child about "stranger danger". HERE is some information you can share with them at home. We will also have a focus on safety during our Wednesday morning announcements and in our classroom circles. As always, if something looks strange please call the non-emergency number @503-655-8211
MORE Safety- Arrival
Many of our students are dropped off early before we have a staff member available to be out front for supervision. At times, students have made some unsafe decisions like bumping into others, playing chase, and climbing on the things out front. If your student is dropped off early we are counting on them to be safe , responsible and respectful. In order to assist our students with a better arrival we will do a few things differently:
- KG-2nd will enter in the morning through the main school doors
- 3rd-5th will enter through the door to the right of the main entrance
- Students should not be playing chase or climbing on things in the morning they will be warned then we will call parents for assistance
- I will try to have an adult out front earlier each day (it may be myself)
- If you are waiting with your child and you are first in line please stand back from the doors so we can see who's coming in to start the day (thank you).

Behaviors Tips- From Coach Isfeld
Kids’ difficult behavior can be a huge challenge for parents. But by using techniques from behavioral therapy, parents can change the way kids react to the things that set them off.
The first step is picking specific behaviors to target and to think about what causes the target behaviors. These causes are called triggers or “antecedents.” For example, you might notice that your child tends to have a tantrum when you ask them to switch activities. Or you might see that your child doesn’t follow instructions if it’s something they don’t want to do.
The goal is to help children improve their behavior by using more helpful antecedents. For instance, a positive antecedent that helps kids with transitioning is counting down to them so they have time to adjust. To help kids follow instructions, you may try giving them choices (“Do you want a shower after dinner or before?”), and not asking too much when your child is hungry, tired, or distracted.
Most importantly, give your child clear, specific rules about what is okay and what isn’t. And give them lots of praise when they behave well. In most cases of minor misbehavior, waiting for your child to do something positive (like stop yelling) and then immediately giving them positive attention will help them learn to behave better over time.
