A Note From the Principal
I hope everyone is surviving the Southern California Cold! Our students did a GREAT job with our active lockdown drill and while we always learn something in these drills, we locked down very quickly and are really proud of our students and how seriously they took this drill.
We are also happy to report our repair is complete and the C building classes that were relocated on Friday, will be back to their regular classrooms on Monday. We thank our staff and students for the flexibility!
In this issue learn more about:
- 8th Grade end of year trip
- 7th Grade Medieval Times payment/permission slip deadline
- PTSA E-Board Nominations
- Career Pathways for 8th graders headed to high school
- Easy to understand Drugs Fact Sheet from the DEA
- Castaic High School Information Meeting and Flyers
- Rio Robotics is still fundraising
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Bennett

| 8th Grade Trip - May 19th We are very happy to announce that the 8th Grade Trip is back! We're even more excited to share that our 8th graders will be going to the Junior High Bash at Universal Studios! Mark your calendars and please note that students DO need to come to school that day in order to attend. Also be aware that students with over 30 demerits or a significant behavioral incident prior to the trip may lose their eligibility to attend. This trip will cost $100 for busing and entry to the park. Universal considers this a "Special Event" and unfortunately, will not accept season passes. Buses will depart in the afternoon AFTER school and we anticipate we won't arrive back until approximately 1a.m. More details will be sent out to 8th grade families in a couple of weeks! | 7th Grade Optional Medieval Times Trip Paperwork has gone out to all interested 7th graders for an optional Medieval Times Excursion on the evening of Thursday, February 16th. We realize some students and families have plans for the four day weekend, but busing and ticket costs were a factor. Being able to go on a weeknight, but not have school the next day was also important due to a later return time. Tickets are on sale and MUST be purchased by Tuesday, January 24th. We cannot make an exception as our ASB clerk will be at a work related conference and we will not be able to process sales by Medieval Time's deadline. Please be sure to have your money and permission slip turned in by TUESDAY! Note this is for 7th graders only. If your child wants to attend and funding is a factor please reach out to your child's counselor. |

As parents and school officials we are being saturated with reports of rising drug use and drug related incidents. However, our city health officials are warning schools that drug related overdoses and deaths are rising in our very own city. Please visit this simple, but helpful DEA Resource for Parents, Educators and Caregivers for easy to understand information on some of the most prevalent drugs that teens and young adults are gaining access to. | COC's Road to Employment Day COC is holding a special event on Saturday, January 28th from 9 am - 1 pm to help students explore career education programs and employment opportunities.
