Weekend Update
R-III News from the desk of Superintendent Mark S. Penny
December 22, 2015
It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!
I visited several campuses today, and the holiday excitement was so very evident. I think our students, faculty, and staff are all ready for a break! Although the students were excited to see me in their schools, students at MSE were even more excited when Santa (Bill Nolle, R3DOT Bus Driver) stepped off a bus for a surprise visit.
Our offices and campuses will be closed December 23-January 3. Faculty and office staff return to work on January 4 for professional development, and the students will return on January 5, 2016.
Board Candidate Filing Update
To date, we have had two candidates sign up to run for our two open Board of Education seats: Dale Black and Randy Siebert
The last day for candidate sign up is January 19, 2016 @ 5:00 p.m.
If we do not receive any more candidates, we will not have a need to place this item on the April 5, 2016 Lincoln County ballot. Either way, we will reorganize the Board at our April 12 regularly scheduled monthly meeting.
New Residential Development in City of Moscow Mills
We received the email below from Mayor Clynch earlier in the week:
All:
I called April on this yesterday, but wanted to give you an "official" notification regarding a new residential development in the City of Moscow Mills.
Chestnut Ridge, a subdivision development, has been approved by MHDC and will begin sometime early next year. This is a tax credit development and NOT subsidized housing. It will be located on the property immediately next to the Lindenwood Extension Center and consist of approximately 40 to 50 homes. It is workforce housing designed for public employees like teachers, police, fire, ems and so on..
As I mentioned to April, I wanted to give you as much heads-up as I could. This will obviously eventually effect enrollment numbers in Cappel Elementary and South Middle School. There will be an official public announcement at the January 11th Board of Alderman Meeting.
Let me know if you have any questions. We anticipate a ground breaking ceremony sometime in late February or early March.
Mike

Sidewalk Improvement Plan for Main Street Elementary School
Great news! The City of Troy notified us today of a sidewalk improvement planned for Main Street Elementary School. The additional/upgraded sidewalk will be an enhanced safety feature for our students who choose to walk to/from MSE.
Because the sidewalk will greatly benefit our students, we are donating 0.04 acre(s) of our property as temporary easement and 0.03 acre(s) of property as permanent easement to accomplish the construction.
