adjustments to dismissal procedures
In the office, we have found that it has been challenging to communicate vital information to people on duty due to the amount of noise and business in the office at that time. So we are asking that everyone make the following adjustments.
1. Classroom Teachers: Please keep a running list of busses called on your board for all of the children to see. If you are wondering if a bus was called or not, first check with a neighboring classroom. If you have an urgent question or message for the office, please call Shannon via telephone. We will not be answering calls via the intercom.
2. Bus Caller (person on intercom): Please be in charge of all walkie talkie traffic in the office. Relay questions to Donna and Shannon as needed. Please do not use your cell phone during duty.
3. East Wing and West Wing Corner People: Please only give us the "east wing clear" or "west wing clear" message. Don't tell us who is coming slowly, stopping in the bathroom, etc. Just give us the all clear message once all students are down in the lobby. This will cut down on walkie talkie traffic.
4. Outside Bus Person: Please don't call the buses in to us until we ask, we're already pretty good at this one, but the reminder is good.
5. Finally, the office is CLOSED during dismissal. We will close the door to alleviate outside noise. Please don't come into the office during dismissal unless absolutely necessary.
We hope that these changes will lead to a calmer, more focused dismissal so that all students make it safely to their destinations (and you don't get stuck calling parents for missed busses).

READING A-Z
In order to keep these licences (and possibly get more), we will need to make sure they are being used. If you would like access to the A-Z licenses, can you please use this link to explain how you are planning to use the licences in your classrooms?
i-Ready
Grades 1-5. Now that you have completed the diagnostic, students should be doing the instructional component 30 minutes per week during reader’s workshop and math workshop. If you are having difficulty with scheduling this, please reach out to Lauren and/or Brett.

BAS
BAS Information
Every student needs an instructional BAS score in X2.
If you happen to also find a student’s independent score, please enter that in X2 as well.
If a student moves from independent to hard (e.g. Level C is independent but Level D is hard), please put the independent level, accuracy, and comprehension score in both the independent and instructional columns.
BAS: FIlling Out the Folders
We will be completing the front and inside of the BAS folders for each student as well as using them to store literacy assessments.
Use this link for directions on how to fill out the BAS folders for each student.
Filling out the BAS folder will help teachers transition students’ reading information to next year’s teacher.
The chart will also allow us to track a student’s growth over time.
The folders are used across the district so they are also helpful if students move to or from another school.
*If student’s data hasn’t been recorded on the folder up until now, you only need to start by recording this year’s data on the folder.
Great new resources from DESE- check them out!
Resources to support standards-aligned teaching and learning: The Department is pleased to announce two new resources designed to support standards-aligned teaching and learning:
Educators, students, families, and others can use the Standards Navigator to explore the Massachusetts learning standards and find related resources such as student work exemplars, quick reference guides, and definitions of terms. The Navigator will be updated with new content and features, including standards for additional subject areas, over the course of the school year.
Family-friendly guides to the standards for each grade level—available in English, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, and Chinese (simplified characters)—are designed to help schools and families work together to support students’ progress toward mastery of the recently revised English language arts/literacy, math, and science and technology/engineering standards. The guides were developed with support from the Massachusetts Parent-Teacher Organization, and they will be expanded to include the 2018 history and social science standards in 2019.
