A Note from the Principal

Hello Parents,

What a week we had. I had the great joy to travel with our 8th grade students to our nation's capital last week. We spent three action packed days visiting sites like the the crash site of Flight 93, the National Shrine, the Capitol, the Smithsonian and a number of memorials.

This was not only an opportunity for our students to see some very important places, it was also a great bonding experience for them. Personally I love trips like this because I have the chance to get to know our students in new ways and sharing in an exciting adventure.

We have parent - teacher conferences this week. These meetings provide a way to foster communication, strengthen the bond between the home and the school and create a more successful environment for our students. I look forward to seeing you this week!

In Christ,

Mr. C

We Need Your Help!

Support the Sacred Heart PTO Sock Hop Auction and Raffle with your time, talents, or treasures!

The PTO covers over $45,000 worth of expenses EACH YEAR related to the betterment of your child's experience at Sacred Heart! That’s over $200 per student.

Through this one fundraiser the PTO pays for class field trips, teacher appreciation events, updated parent/school communication programs, and everything in between! This annual auction and raffle saves you countless other school expenses or further substantial increases in tuition.

We are still very far from our goal with only $3,500 received to date and just a little over a month left until the auction! We need ALL families to support this year's Sock Hop in some way to ensure it is a success for our school!

  • Purchase your tickets now and encourage family, friends, and neighbors to do the same! If they cannot attend the auction they can still be part of the raffles via a purchase of Reverse Raffle or 50/50 tickets. You can use the following link for all ticket purchases -
  • Spread the news about sponsorship and donation opportunities to your place of employment or favorite businesses! This is a unique opportunity for them to advertise to local families.
  • Donate an item or talent you may have that could be used as part of our live or silent auction! Unused gift cards, season ticket holders, a stay at your vacation property, personally curated gift basket . . . no donation is too small or unique- email with your idea!
  • Join the auction committee and share your time and talents with the preparation of the event! Contact Jennie Pettry if interested in helping.

Important Update to Gradelink

As you know we have migrated our database, communication and digital gradebooks to a new system, Gradelink. We thank you for logging into our new system and updating your email contact information. As previously mentioned, the process of migrating to this new system has resulted in some adjustments that need to be made.

One such adjustment is in the area of weighted grades. Weighting is a common practice that allows teachers to give more credit towards key assessments like projects and tests. We have recently discovered that some classwork, tests or quizzes are not appearing with the correct weighting in the online gradebook. For example, a 10 point quiz carrying as much weight as a 40 or 50 point test. We have recently discovered that some classwork, tests or quizzes are not appearing with the correct weighting in the online gradebook.

We believe that the issue has been identified and will be resolved this week. With that being said, you may notice a slight change in your child's overall grade. If you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher.

Thank you again for your patience and understanding as we move through this process.

Veteran's Day - Save the Date

We will celebrate Veteran's Day on Wednesday, November 9th this year. In preparation we are updating our Wall of Fame. See information below.

At Sacred Heart of Jesus School, we are very proud to honor any family member that has served in the armed forces. A number of years ago, we created a "Wall of Honor" that is located on our ground floor hallway as a memorial that the students can look at each and every day. Each star on the wall shows a picture of the student and on the points of the star, a picture of the loved ones that served or are serving in the military. As we prepare for Veterans Day next month, we are updating our Wall of Honor. If you have any family members in the armed forces, please email Annette Bernard with your child's name, grade, name of service member along with their relationship to your child (parent, grandparent, sibling, aunt, uncle, etc). If you have a picture, please email that as well. They do not need to be in uniform although those are always nice to have. If you have any questions, please contact the school office or Annette directly.

Focus on the Domestic Church

The title “domestic church” is a first century term that refers to the family, the smallest body of gathered believers in Christ. Domestic churches are, in a sense, little churches, through which we are always reminded of God’s love for us. Since the birth of the Church, these “little churches” have served as islands of Christian life in an unbelieving world.

Though the life of a family can often feel very ordinary, it is precisely in the day to day routines where we can be sanctified. Bringing the beautiful and the sacred into our homes, celebrating feast days and nurturing family prayer, can more easily turn the attention of our family to holiness and heaven.

Your child has already brought home the activity for October! There you can find easy ways to celebrate the life of the Church in your home. Complete three of the challenges and return your family paper back at the end of the month to be entered into a drawing for family dress down passes and a special treat! October is FULL of some great feast days!
