This horrific battle lasted only three days from July 1-3, 1863. Yet the two clashing armies managed to gather a total number of over 46,000 casualties!

The two main Generals as shown below were General Mead and General Lee. BUt there was also Pickett who lead Pickett's charge. Picket's charge was a horrible failure for the Confederates. The South never regained its strength and the war from here on became a game of cat and mouse.

After the battle was over 37,574 rifles were left laying on the battle field, of those 24,000 were still loaded, 6,000 had one round in the barrel, 18,000 had two-ten rounds in the barrel!
