All students will demonstrate measurable growth and achievement in mathematics.

From the Principal, Mrs. Alonzo
Dear Winfield Friends and Family,
Thank you for a wonderful week of Distance Learning! I enjoyed my time with students and teachers. Today I completed a directed drawing with a second grade class over Zoom. We drew my Ambilobe Panther Chameleon, and then I was able to show them "Rafiki" up close! Our teachers are working hard to make sure we are all still connecting!
I hope you love our special video this week as much as I do. GIGANTIC THANK YOUS go to Mrs. Sassman and her husband Rich Sassman for making this special project. Thank you to the entire Winfield crew for participating!
If you've not yet connected to us on our Winfield/Jerry Ross Facebook page, I encourage you to do so. It's been a source of laughs and support each week seeing and hearing what our families are doing.
PLEASE, reach out at any time with concerns or questions. We (all staff members) are most easily reached via email at this time. You can reach me at jalonzo@cps.k12.in.us.
Boys and Girls, listen to Mrs. Alonzo's latest read alouds!

Counselor's Corner, with Mrs. Williams
Hello to all!
I hope this finds our families in good health and well-being. For the next two weeks I will be sharing information with students on Growth Mindset.
We all have beliefs about our own abilities and potential. These beliefs are part of our mindset, which is so powerful it can fuel our behavior and predict our success. Mindset shapes our everyday lives, helping us interpret our experiences and future possibilities.
This concept was first coined by psychologist Dr. Carol Dweck. She identified that a growth mindset occurs when we believe our intelligence and abilities can be improved upon with effort and the right strategies.
Students will learn about making mistakes, overcoming negative self-thoughts (saying “I can’t), and the importance of setting goals. Having these growth mindset skills empowers students to become life-long learners, adapt and accept challenges, and further develop their unwavering self-confidence.
Parents, thank you for your continued dedication and efforts. You have seamlessly taken on many additional roles and responsibilities. Some days are going to be better than others…. and that’s OKAY! You are AMAZING!

Positive Behavior Coach, Mrs. Adams
Dear, Winfield families -
This week, instead of giving an update on PBIS land, I thought I would share some thoughts that have been swirling around Mrs. Adams land.
Things are tough right now. With coronavirus circling the globe, impacting nearly every citizen on Earth, the world is currently a weird place. We're all facing uncertainties about what the future will hold. We don't know for sure what will happen with our health, the health of our loved ones, our jobs, our communities, and more. It's unnerving, to say the least.
During times like these, it's okay to be overwhelmed, scared, or anxious. In fact, it's normal. You're not alone in feeling how you feel. I, too, feel overwhelmed and unsure.
My husband, two children, and I are trying to navigate a new normal, and the following two ideas are helping my family of four to work through our emotions. They are simple ideas, but I hope you find comfort and support in the message.
IT'S OKAY TO FEEL HOW YOU FEEL.
In any difficult situation (or any situation at all), it's important to remember that it's okay to feel how you feel. Feelings happen, but they aren't facts. You are allowed to feel any feeling you feel. If and how you act on that feeling is what can be helpful or harmful, but feelings on their own are okay. Accept your feelings and choose actions carefully.
YOU ARE ENOUGH.
The expectations for being "perfect" during quarantine can add up. The best thing we can do right now is give ourselves the reminder that we are enough. That means you're allowed to go a full day without a STEM experiment. You can give yourself a break from the endless board gaming. You don't have to make the meal or do the load of laundry. I've never parented thorough a pandemic before, but I do know that when everything is crazy on the outside, children need love on the inside. The moments you carve out during the day to connect and cuddle are just what they (we) need right now. The everyday stories, songs, and routines you share are exactly the right stuff to help your children (and yourself) feel safe, secure, and loved. So, drop the load of expectations and take a deep breath.
You are enough.
Stay safe and strong,
Mrs. Mandy Adams
