Hello RHK8 Families,
Thank you to everyone who planned, participated in, contributed to, or volunteered at today's Lap-a-thon! Despite the wet weather, we had an incredible parent turn out, our students ran many laps, and there were many smiles all around. Thank you also to the hard work that went into this event, for the fundraising efforts, and also for our community's tremendous generosity once again.
Here's the News for this week:
Gaga Ball Has Come to RHK8
Our amazing RHK8 PTO generously purchased a couple of Gaga Pits to enhance our student recess experience. The two pits were installed over the weekend by the Wolff, Budress, Miller, and Pringle families, along with the help of Val our custodian. Gaga Ball now sits beside four square, wall ball, soccer, basketball, and many other games and activities that students can do during the recess time. It was clear that this week Gaga Ball was definitely the main attraction. In fact, it was so popular that many students returned after school to have more time to play Gaga Ball. Attached below are a few pictures from this week. Thank you to our parent community through our PTO for this new addition!
Community Coffee
On Friday morning next week, October 12, Karla and Peter will host community coffees with parents and guardians who are available. We'll have conversations in English from 8:30 to 9:15 and then switch to Spanish from 9:15 to 10:00. You're welcome to come for the whole time or for as much as you're available.
It’s Box Tops Time
Each box top is worth .10 cents. Our goal for this year is $2,000.00
Visit http://www.boxtops4education.com and learn more.
Send Box Tops to school in baggies or on sheets of 25 or 50. Be sure your teachers name is on them so your class gets credit.
Classrooms have collection envelopes to deposit Box Tops.
Let’s make this happen BIG!
What is Art Literacy?
It is a volunteer led program in the Beaverton schools where the works of different artists, plus art of a culture, are introduced to each class throughout the year. http://beavertonartliteracy.org/
Lessons Begin in October. K-5 students will learn about the American Regionalist Artist, Grant Wood. Middle School’s first lesson features the Renaissance Artist, Leonardo da Vinci.
We have great group of parent volunteers to present to each class, but we could use more helpers in many classrooms. Our next Art Lit Meeting is Monday, October 8th at 8:45am in the school cafeteria. Please join us and learn more about helping to bring Art Literacy to your child’s classroom. If you are interested but cannot attend, please contact Emily Massey: emily.massey@outlook.com.
NIKE grants $15,000 for the RHS Track!!!
The NIKE Community Impact Fund supports grassroots organizations (nonprofits, community centers and local schools) to get kids moving, bringing the benefits of sport to their communities, giving kids an opportunity to fall in love with sport and physical activity, and creating stronger communities where play, sport and physical activity are a highly-valued part of everyday life. Our new track will help facilitate and drive all of those things!
A huge THANK YOU to NIKE for their extremely generous support of our project!
Bottle Drive Update:
Also, Elise Vanderzanden is still going strong! She donated an additional $177 this past week from all the cans she collected over the summer. WOW!!
Thank you again for supporting our Lap-a-thon! Enjoy your weekend.
Sincerely,
Peter
