New Sensory Hallway!!
We are very excited to announce a wonderful addition to the Smith Elementary hallways this coming school year. With collaboration from our Occupational Therapist Tammy Fickies and former Stockbridge School employee Mike Demint, we have created two sensory hallways.
These areas will help students be more mindful of the whole body, wellness, and focus by encouraging them to be active on their way to class or when they simply might need a break. Students do this by using a colourful activity map on the floor. The path students take instructs them to hop, squat, do wall pushups and crawl. The two paths will be located down the Kindergarten/1st grade hallway and down the 2nd grade hallway.
First week of School Volunteers
As you know the first week of school is always fun, exciting, and can be hectic all in one. We can't do it without the wonderful support of our families.
We are looking for parent volunteers for the first and second week of school August 26th-30th and September 3rd-6th. Areas of need will be the following:
8:30-9:00 to assist with breakfast, parking lot, bus drop off, and lobby/hallways
11:10-11:55: Y5/2nd grade recess/lunch
11:45-12:30: Kindergarten recess/lunch
12:20-1:05: 1st grade recess/lunch
3:15-3:45: to assist lobby/hallways and bus dismissal procedures
Please send an email to Mr. Edwards at edwardsb@panthernet.net or call our office at 517-851-7735 to express your interest and the date/time that you would be willing to volunteer. We will reply to confirm. Thank you in advance for your continued support.
