Natural challenges
Mountains
These mountains made is incredibly dangerous due to the cold, dry air, and the rough terrain made it difficult to cross safely.
Mountain lions or other animals
Mountain lions were one of many animals to attack the pioneers during their journey across this unknown land.
Lakes and rivers
Lakes and rivers were one of the biggest challenges because they were hard to cross unless the pioneers went around them which took days, even weeks.
Resource challenges
What were the resource challenges?
The resources used during the westward expansion included food, water, cattle, mobile shelter, guns, axes, and many other small things. These was an obstacle because some different groups or pioneer caravans ran out of food, water, and ammo for their guns.
