ACES Family Update

Equinox and Balance
Equinox in Alaska it is a moment in time when the daylight and dark hold each other in respectful balance. We understand how precious balance is and how fleeting and delicate it can be. We hold it in regard as something only momentarily achievable. But if we look further into the natural world, we can observe that balance is something that is achieved through a constant state of flow, like the rising and falling of the tides, or the cycle the seasons. Balance is not something that is expected to remain constant, it happens through constant motion.
If you feel out of balance and need help there are many resources available through the school district and here on Eielson. The school district can help families in transition who are experiencing housing insecurity through our Student Support Services, Social Services Managers and McKinney-Vento services. Our Eielson partners include Military and Family Support Center, Family Advocacy and Behavioral Health. At ACES students have many caring adults to help. Mrs. Sutton, our Behavior Support Technician, and Mrs. Kennedy, our counselor, help students be successful at school, as well as our ABEL technicians. With all of us working together to support students we can help everyone be successful.
Remember balance is like riding a bicycle, it requires a certain amount of force and speed to sustain. On the other side of every hill, you get to coast for a moment with the wind in your hair. Happy Sunday!
See you in the car line!
Teresa Lesage
Every year we try to prepare students for many emergency situations that we may face as a school. For example, last week we had a fire and evacuation drill to practice what we would do in the event of a fire. In the next couple of weeks, starting October 3, Mrs. Lesage will be working with students to prepare them for our ALICE protocols. ALICE simply stands for alert, lockdown, inform, counter and evacuate. The ALICE protocols are used in emergency situations where we create a plan when we are faced with an immediate danger or threat. We consider the developmental age of the students when teaching the lessons. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions, comments or concerns.
