SLCS District Update

Superintendent's Update
Dear SLCS Families and Staff Members,
Twenty South Lyon High and South Lyon East members from our unified Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) team traveled to Detroit and competed at the State Career Development Conference last Thursday and Friday. The team is under the leadership and supervision of teacher and sponsor, Mr. Trumaine Ferguson. Sixty percent of the team members were finalists in their events. Three were crowned State Champs and qualified for a trip to Orlando for the International Career Development Conference.
Roman Chavez won for his Start Up Business Plan and will compete against other winners from across the country in Orlando. Anna Rottinghaus and Jessica Sarrach won in the Leadership and Teamwork Role Play Event. They will also attend the Ignite Academy in Orlando which will help them grow as emerging leaders in DECA.
We are exceptionally proud of all of the students for the learning they obtained and the success they achieved. It is important to point out that this is the first year SLCS has been associated with DECA and participating in the related competitions. Planning, preparation, and hard work equals results!
SLCS DECA!
Steven Archibald
Superintendent

Kindergarten Enrollment for 2023-2024-Update
Kindergarten and Junior Kindergarten eligibility for the 2023-24 school year:
To be eligible for Kindergarten, students must be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2023.
Students turning 5 between September 2 and December 1, 2023, may enroll in either Junior Kindergarten or in Kindergarten with a signed waiver.
Students who turn 5 after December 1, 2023, are NOT eligible for Kindergarten or Junior Kindergarten for the 2023-24 school year.
Enrollment forms for next year’s Kindergarten and Junior Kindergarten are available on the district’s website. The Kindergarten/Junior Kindergarten page on our website outlines the documents needed for enrollment.
To see which elementary school your address is currently districted to attend, check the boundary maps on our website.
Both the Bartlett and Kent Lake JK programs are full. As of this morning, there were still a few JK spots remaining at Dolsen, Salem, and Sayre Elementary Schools. We are still allowing eligible families to be added to the waitlists at Bartlett and Kent Lake as well. If your student is eligible for JK and you wish to receive a placement, we highly encourage you to complete your enrollment paperwork immediately. After the initial placements, spots are given on a first come, first placed basis.
Please share this information with neighbors, friends, and family members who have an incoming Kindergarten or Junior Kindergarten student.
