Week of April 5, 2021

Navigation Notes

Hello Westside Families! This week begins FSA testing for 3rd-6th graders and we need YOUR help! Your child is academically ready to do their best on the test, so support their brain power by ensuring they get a good night's sleep prior to each test session, eat something for breakfast, and are HERE and ON TIME each day. This will help them feel ready and confident to show what they know! The testing schedule is below for this week to reference, so please talk about it and encourage your child.

Report cards for the third nine-weeks come home Monday, April 5th. Please review, sign, and return the envelope and any other signed documents back to school. If you have questions about the report card, please reach to your child's teacher.

Is your child part of a military family? April honors children of those who serve our country. We'd love to know your family's story, branch of military, and if you've moved from different locations during your child's life so we can honor them at school. If you'd like to share, please email your child's teacher, send in a note, or email me directly at the contact info below.

Thank you to all who have returned their pre-registration packets to school recently! If you are still working on them, please send in as soon as possible as we will be starting to sort students into next year's classes soon.

Again, we are grateful to have such supportive families in our school community and appreciate you trusting us with your most precious possessions each and every day. Have a wonderful week!

Westside Students Learn Every Moment of Every Day!

Third Graders celebrated all their hard work learning standards this year and blew off all their potential stress for the test last week. Mrs. Wallace organized a hot dog picnic/extended recess time and invited administration to join in the fun. Mrs. Klett's 3rd grade class had a "Pop Into Testing" read-around-the-room event to celebrate all their hard work this year learning standards. We know these students are going to ROCK the FSA this week!
Third Grade students in Ms. Miller's class have been writing their own music with Ms. Hodge during Activity!
Our Guidance Counselor, Mrs. Smith conducted a life skills lesson to teach kids how to practice patience and persistence while using strategies such as breathing techniques when facing a challenge. This challenge was “rock stacking”.

Students in Mrs. Burchinal’s reading classes have been working hard with writing multi-paragraph essays. Last week both classes wrote "partner essays" using google docs. The brick and mortar students were paired with e-learners to collaborate through zoom to do their essays. This was a great activity to connect the students at home with the students in class!

Show your School Spirit!

Encourage your child to wear their Westside shirts, club shirts or school colors every Friday to show their pride!
