The Merry Month of May

May is a bittersweet month at Little School. It is one of our most vibrant and exciting months, however, we also prepare to say goodbye to 170ish of our students who are ready to move to Kindergarten. We know they are well-prepared, but our hearts aren't prepared to let them go just yet.

This month is our Spring Sing for our 2.5s and 3s classes. This singing concert celebrates Mother's Day and Spring Time, but all family members are welcome to come watch. Please see your child's teacher for details on the time and day of your Spring Sing.

We look forward to inviting our moms to school this month. Each teacher is planning a special event that moms can attend in the school with their students. Keep an eye out for more information from your child's teacher.

Please make sure you pay your tuition bill before the last day of school. That will help us close our books for the year. Most people paid May tuition in July 2021, but some of you have not, so please look at your bill on May 2nd to be sure you do not have any outstanding balances.

We want to thank all of you for your contribution to our Teacher Appreciation Week. Our Advisory Board Moms so wonderfully planned a great week to celebrate our teachers. All of the contributions and planning means a lot to our staff.

Upcoming Events

May 3rd and 4th: Spring Sing 9:15am (2.5s and 3s only)

Safety and Clean-up

We love to see our families picnicking and playing outside after school. However, please have your children put their toys away in the toys boxes when you leave. Please park the Cozy Coups along the fences. With the wind lately, we have been losing our toys and cars to the fields below the church.

Please keep your children off the outdoor stages. They are not safe for children.

Vacation or Sick?

Be sure to use our online absence reporting form when your child will be absent due to illness or vacation. The form can be found on our home page at the top. www.stlukeslittleschool.org

Music Class News

The flowers of spring always make our hearts sing! Happy May, Little School families! Congratulations to our 2.5-year-old and 3-year-old classes on their hard work preparing for their Spring Sing. It is going to be beautiful!

Our Chapel song for all children this month, is "1,2,3 Jesus Loves Me."

It is now time for the 4-year-old-classes and Explorers to start preparing for their fun graduation program, while the younger children will learn and sing about jazz music, fun movement songs with beans, scarfs and instruments.

This has been such a great year for Little School Music! We'd like to thank all of you for helping us to make it fun and exciting. We hope you all have a great summer and that you'll stay safe and healthy. Keep singing!

Be strong and courageous

Do not be afraid

Dear Little School Graduates and Families,

Thank you for letting us be a part of your child's early years, and thank you for letting some of us be your child's very first teacher. As they say, the days are long, but the years are short. We have enjoyed being part of your lives, and you will always be part of our Little School Family. Please stay in touch, and come back and visit. Yes, we remember our students, and yes we love to see how they grow.

Love,

Ms. Kelly, Director

Goodbye is Never Goodbye

Tushka Breen started teaching at Little School in 2000. She served as a lead teacher, and for the last five years she served as our assistant director. Not only did she serve many students throughout the years, but she led staff through joys and trials, and became a role model for many staff. I met Tushka when she was my daughter's teacher here at Little School. I was so sad when my daughter graduated, as she is my youngest, and I was not ready to leave Little School. Tushka recommended that I apply to be a teacher. The next school year, I was hired as a teacher, and two years after that, Tushka was one of ten people who served on my hiring committee when I became the director. Tushka changed my life path and the path of many of our staff and students for the better. I recently ran into a pastor of a church in Missouri whose son also had Tushka as a teacher years ago. What a small world! No one forgets Tushka and the way she makes children feel about themselves and their world. Tushka recently decided that her next path in life is to be a full-time grandma. Tushka has one adorable little grandbaby, Marcus, and another grandbaby on the way. We will miss her smile, her energy, and her laugh. We hope to see her again as a sub or teacher when those grandbabies are big enough to come to Little School. Our doors are always open to wonderful educators and people like Tushka.

If you want to give Tushka a letter, drawing, or gift to be given to her at our end of year staff celebration, please drop it off with your child's teacher and have them bring it to me.

I will miss my colleague, friend, and mentor immensely as I know many of you will too.

With Love,

Ms. Kelly, Director
