With Every Challenge Comes an Opportunity
Help Hopkins Public Schools - Ensure to Apply for Free Meal Benefits before Dec. 15th!
Even though Hopkins scholars receive free student meals this school year, we encourage Hopkins parents/caregivers to apply for free meal benefits. Applying is important even if your child does not eat school meals and there are many benefits that qualifying families receive beyond meals. Based on the number of eligible free meal applications, our school receives important funding to pay for teacher positions and school resources. Many families are surprised to learn that they qualify. Please apply by Dec. 15, 2020 to help our schools and scholars. The process takes about 10 minutes.
Additional Resources
The COVID 19 pandemic has created a lot of hardships for families. Hopkins Schools and its community partners want to support families with additional needs outside of school meals.
Here is a flyer consisting of community agencies that help families with food, emergency assistance, housing assistance, health care, and employment assistance: https://bit.ly/SchoolCommunityPartnership

Your child's school counselor or social worker can also assist in connecting you with resources. You can find their contact information here; https://bit.ly/SchoolCounselorsSocialWorkers
Attendance
At Glen Lake, we believe that regular school attendance is directly related to success in academic work, benefits students socially, provides opportunities for important communications between teachers and students, and establishes regular habits of dependability important to the future of the student. This still holds true in a distance learning environment.
- attend a Google Meet with their classroom teacher or other Glen Lake staff member OR
- complete an assignment through Canvas
Thank you for your support in helping our students access their learning opportunities!
Health Office Communication
Dear Parents/Guardians -
To monitor the health of our school community we are asking that you continue to notify the school of any COVID related concerns. Your child’s individual data will not be shared and will help us determine when our community is healthy enough to return to in-person learning.
Please call the attendance line, 952-988-5130 if your student or anyone in your household has:
● tested positive for Covid19
● has Covid-19 like symptoms
● has been a close contact of someone who tested positive
● has needed to quarantine
If you have questions please call our school nurse, Jody McDermott-Baty (952-988-5204) or email Jody.mcdermott-baty@hopkinsschools.org.

The Hopkins School Board Needs You
The Hopkins School Board is accepting applications from community members who are interested in serving on the Hopkins School Board. This unique opportunity exists because
Hopkins School Board Vice Chair Chris LaTondresse was elected to the Hennepin County Board and is unable to serve both roles simultaneously. The appointee must be 21 years of age, be eligible to vote, and live in the Hopkins School District (270). The selected person would serve until December 31, 2021 when LaTondresse’s original term is up. If you are interested in serving, please apply on the district website. Applications will be available online beginning at noon on November 24, 2020. Please apply by 5 p.m. on December 8, 2020.
