COVID UPDATES:

COVID TESTING @ NHS:

Durham Public Schools, in partnership with MAKO Medical, will begin providing weekly COVID-19 testing at school to help identify possible COVID-19 infections among students even if they’re not showing any symptoms. Research has shown such testing can reduce the spread by 50%, especially in large settings such as schools.

The testing is a simple swab of the nose and not the test that tickles the brain. This is the same test families can administer from home or at local testing sites.

This is a voluntary testing process, so a parent or guardian must register their student to participate. The link to register is here (paper copy found here) as well as a letter sent home with your student. All testing information and results will remain confidential.

ENRICHMENT OPPORTUNITIES

If you are planning to transfer to ECU, now is the time to submit an application to Pirate Promise, our guaranteed admissions pathway to ECU. Students can submit an application here through November 1.

Students accepted to Pirate Promise receive guaranteed admission to ECU if they maintain a 2.5 or higher GPA, waived application fees, transfer and financial advice, and opportunities to participate in events and access resources on ECU’s campus.

Pirate Promise is open to university transfer, College and Career Promise, Early Childhood Education, Associate of Applied Science students in technical programs wishing to get a BS in Industrial Technology (see BSIT qualifying AAS degrees here), and RN to BSN students.

Want to learn more? Attend a Virtual Pirate Promise Interest Session via Zoom. To register, click on “Live Info Sessions” at piratepromise.ecu.edu

  • Nov 15 at 4 p.m.
  • Nov 29 at 4 p.m.

If you have questions, please contact the Transfer Center at Durham Tech or Valarie Hines (hinesv@durhamtech.edu).

If you are new to Durham Tech and your goal is to transfer to NC State, consider applying to Community College Collaboration, or C3. Students are selected through a competitive admissions process, and, if they attend full time, maintain a 3.0 GPA, and graduate on time, they are guaranteed admission to NC State, although not necessarily a specific major. The application opens October 18, and applications are considered as they are received, so it benefits students to apply early. More information and the online application are available at NC State C3. Questions? Please contact Dr. Catherine Ward at Durham Tech or Ms. Hines, hinesv@duramtech.edu.

Calling All Juniors!
Please take the time to complete the Junior Work Experience Survey. Your participation helps DPS provide more work opportunities for students.
