As the school year is taking shape, we would like to introduce our new PKMS Tuesday Times. The Tuesday Times is our Bi-monthly newsletter where we will provide information for families and share highlights of what is taking place here at PKMS.

Check and Connect Time
We are excited to announce that Check and Connect time will start on Monday, September 19th from 2:34 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Check and Connect is an opportunity at the end of the school day for your child to receive additional support in their classes. Your child will receive homework help, tutoring and the ability to complete any missed assignments.
Please encourage your child to attend. When a student is released at 3:00 p.m. they will receive a Check and Connect pass signed by their teacher so that you are aware that they attended.

PKMS Bring Your Child To School Day

PKMS Swimming Pool Guidance from Austin Goldberg
Dear Middle School Parents/Guardians,
All sixth, seventh and eighth grade students attending Peekskill Middle School will receive aquatics instruction during their regularly scheduled Physical Education class. The goals of the Aquatics Program are:
1) To enhance one’s swimming proficiency and confidence in the water.
2) To instruct students how to effectively react during an emergency situation.
3) To obtain knowledge in various aquatics activities.
4) To have fun.
Units include:
6th Grade – Intro to Water Safety and Swim
7th Grade – Swimming, Boat Safety, Water Survival Techniques, Mask & Fins
8th Grade – Strokes and Competitive Swim
*Aquatics Games and Activities will be incorporated into each unit.
Your child will be required to bring to each class:
• An adequate bathing suit/swim attire:
Boys preferred attire: swim trunks or athletic shorts.
Girls preferred attire: one-piece bathing suits
Jeans, Pants, Khaki, Jean Shorts, or any clothing with zippers or buttons will not be permitted in the pool.
• A clean towel
• A plastic bag to transport wet clothing/towels
• Shower Shoes (flip-flops)
• Personal Soap/Shampoo is recommended
•Students will be required to adhere to all pool rules at all times.
•Students will be water-tested to determine skill level and be required to stay in their assigned pool area unless otherwise directed by their teacher.
•Students not entering the water for medical reasons or failure to dress-out in bathing suit/permitted swim attire will be required to complete written assignments pertaining to the lesson on the pool deck.
• Lockers will be provided to all students during their scheduled pool time. Students should bring their own lock if desired.
• Students will receive a total of 20 minutes split between the beginning and end of each class period to shower, dry-off, and change (This time can either be 10 minutes at the beginning and 10 minutes at the end or 5 minutes in the beginning and 15 at the end).
• Electric devices (hair dryers, curling irons, etc.) are not permitted.
**If your child’s class is swimming and the student is unprepared, there will be a Google Assignment to complete in the pool area.**
If you prefer your child does NOT participate in swimming, please contact the following Physical Education Teachers.

Estimados padres/tutores de la escuela intermedia:
Todos los estudiantes de sexto, séptimo y octavo grado que asisten a la Escuela Intermedia Peekskill recibirán instrucción sobre deportes acuáticos durante su clase de Educación Física programada regularmente.
Los objetivos del Programa Acuático son:
1) Para mejorar el dominio de la natación y la confianza en el agua.
2) Instruir a los estudiantes sobre cómo reaccionar eficazmente durante una situación de emergencia.
3) Adquirir conocimientos en diversas actividades acuáticas.

Su hijo deberá traer a cada clase:
• Traje de baño/atuendo de baño adecuado:
Vestimenta preferida de los niños: bañador o short deportivo.
El atuendo preferido de las niñas: trajes de baño de una pieza.
No se permitirán en la piscina Jeans, Pantalones, Caqui, Pantalones Cortos de Mezclilla o cualquier ropa con cremalleras o botones.
• Una toalla limpia
• Una bolsa de plástico para transportar ropa/toallas mojadas
• Zapatos de ducha (chanclas)
• Se recomienda jabón/champú personal
•Los estudiantes deberán cumplir con todas las reglas de la piscina en todo momento.
•Los estudiantes serán evaluados en el agua para determinar el nivel de habilidad y se les pedirá que permanezcan en el área de la piscina asignada a menos que su maestro indique lo contrario.
•Los estudiantes que no ingresen al agua por razones médicas o que no se vistan con traje de baño/indumentaria de natación permitida deberán completar tareas escritas relacionadas con la lección en la terraza de la piscina.
• Se proporcionarán casilleros a todos los estudiantes durante su tiempo de piscina programado. Los estudiantes deben traer su propio candado si lo desean.
• Los estudiantes recibirán un total de 20 minutos divididos entre el comienzo y el final de cada período de clase para ducharse, secarse y cambiarse (Este tiempo puede ser de 10 minutos al principio y 10 minutos al final o 5 minutos en el principio y 15 al final).
